so it looks like you need an alternator... what else could it be?
hi there.
i have a 1989 civic dx hatchback with a manual 5 spd, and i have been having some charging issues. now it wont charge at all and cant even drive more than a block before dying. i had the battery tested, and that is fine. the terminals are clean and the belt is tight and intact. all signs point toward the alternator, but ive been duped before.
i was just wondering if there is anything cheaper i should try to fix first. also i am wondering what kind of alternator i have (hoping to get one before taking this one out. (i am not equipt with a voltmeter, nor can i afford one at the moment, while still having the money for the fix)
thanks a ton!
any suggestions will be appreciated.

If your motor still cranks over and starts and runs for a bit it might not be the alternator.
Try this start the car remove the POSITIVE\ RED cable from the battery if the car dies automaticly you need a alternator if not post back with the results.

^^ Do this simple test. But then it sounds exactly how a bad alternator is. Again you can get it tested for free. I bought the lifetime warranty alternator at Orielly's and I love it. Well the lifetime warranty part ahaha
remove negative battery cable while engine is running if car stays on then alternator is good. or is it the positive cable? something like that good luck budy
