Default Help! '86 honda in need of some genius!

I've got this 1986 honda accord i got used for cheap as my first car. It's not in bad shape inside or out. The only problem is somewhere in the fuel system. It idles ok , but to get it started i have to pour a bit of petrol into the carberator. Sometimes when i step on the gas to rev up the rpm, it bogs down! Fuel filter? Vacuum leak? Any help would be most appreciated!!!!
Thanks again!
Chris

Does the accelerator pump squirt gas when you when you open the throttle?

Sorry for the day and 1/2 response, but yes, i took the fuel line off the carb. The line squirts out fuel just fine. So i guess it's not the fuel pump....
Thanks,
Chris

No, not the fuel pump. We know that works because the engine runs. The accelerator pump gives an extra squirt of gas when the throttle is opened. You have to look down the throat of the carb to see if it is working or not. (Engine not running to be safe.)

Checked the carb while ignition on. While pumping the gas pedal did make the rear "port" look wet, i didn't see any gas squirting anywhere. I found that if i closed the choke (after removing the breather obviously) while starting, the moter starts right up. The choke dosen't seem to be moving as much as it should maybe? It's hooked to some doodad on the other side of the carb. Should i just find out what that is and replace it? Or is there something else that controls that piece?
Thanks,
Chris

If the choke plate isn't closing all the way when the engine is cold, that may be your problem. It may just need to be adjusted.
