Default V6 Transmission Questions

The car is a 2000 Accord V6 Auto. My mom's car. Transmission has been leaking, so I drained it and cleaned it off. I was hoping to find a crack but didn't see one. My best guess from the oil stains was that it is the mating between the tranny and differential (not sure what they are, but 2 large housings are mated with a gasket in between). So I JB welded the area to hopefully stop the leak - yes I know this is a "mickey mouse" solution, but let's be honest, it's a 12 year old honda and not worth the cost of labor to pull off the tranny and do it "right."

Now I have done my searching and have read all about tranny filling, draining, flushing, etc. with these auto accords. I just have 2 questions:

1.) When I removed the drain plug, which I know from searching is magnetic, there was a lot of metal shavings on it - no biggy, I wiped them off. But there was also a ton of grease on the drain plug - not oil/tranny fluid, but grease - I wiped a lot of this off as well when getting the shavings off. What's the deal with this grease? I was pretty surprised by this.

2.) Stupid question and I know the answer, but want to confirm for peace of mind. This is the first time popping her hood and what I saw was not what I'm accustomed to. When looking at the car from the front, the engine sits on the left and the tranny on the right. There is a dipstick on both sides. The dip stick on the left of the engine is the engine oil stick, and the dipstick on the right of the tranny is the tranny dip stick, right? And I can fill the new fluid through the tranny dip stick hole?

Thanks in advance.
