5th gen type sh...is it worth for n/a??
Hey guys, i have a 5th gen prelude... i am going to be swapping the tranny out because it has a few issues. I love the prelude a lot. Very nice car, and i have alwasy wanted to do an n/a build. Im thinking this is the car that i can do that to. anyways it has 130k and i wanna do it about 150k or a little more... but that isnt important. My questions is... is it worth to do it on an sh because of the atts system? or would the base model be better? If the base model be better, is there anyway i can remove my atts?? Also, i would be looking at wanting 230+ hp... i know it will cost money, tuning, etc... but i am wondering is the stock sh tranny able to handle that power with a stage 2 or 3 clutch?? or am i going to want to get a different tranny... that is why im asking this now to know if i should be looking at another one. Thank you guys for your help. Its greatly appreciated!!

You can remove the atts, I am getting ready to do this because the sh engine cost quite a bit more than a base h22 engine. If you were to build a n/a engine I believe just about any thing you do to the sh model will throw a check engine light thus disabling the atts unit anyways. So if you are changine out the transmission anyways I would probably just source a standard obd2 h22 engine, put in a standard transmission out of a base model prelude and use the engine computer out of a base as well. That or you can find someone that knows more about the atts system as I am just going to take it out of my 5th generation I'm done messing with it.
I'm ATTS free, that design is pretty crappy anyways. Just adds a bunch of weight. If you're going to use a limited slip, it should either be mechanical, or not exist.
OP, just depends on what you want out of the car. One of the biggest problems with the ATTS setup is that you're stuck with OBD2, so for tuning you're limited to a piggyback. Otherwise they're a fun car. For something simple and reliable, swap to a base setup.
Yeah, that must be why it's in almost the entire Acura lineup now... because it sucks.

lol ATTS is pretty kewl IMO
Our tuning options are growing for obd2 but still not cost effective comparability.
Soon I hope

OP; yes it could handle it, stage 3 is not gonna hurt anything, 230hp at the wheels will cost a bit, IMO no not worth it. Id go base and yes you can remove the ATTS, but is that worth removing? to each his own.
there is a write up on here about removing the ATTS, look it up and maybe you will have more insight
