OK I have a 92f22b prelude and I broke the timing belt and bent valves. A buddy if mine told me to put a vtech head on it. It has a JDM f22b block in the car now and I was wondering would there be any benefit of swapping to a vtech head and what head would I use????

you could have also damaged the pistons on your own block, if you want a VTEC
then source a JDM H22a motor with ecu. these engines go cheap, well over here anyway you would get one for 300-500 euros.

I've never done it myself. But from what I understand, frankenstein engines are just really time consuming and don't last too long, and should only be done by someone who really knows what they're doing. Go for it if you want, but I'd say go with a stock F or H motor that already has vtec. You won't be disappointed!

do the frankenstein, its not a hard build, and its a good platform if you want to boost it.

And is there anything special that needs to be done for this "Frankenstein" swap or dose anyone know some good links I can research on.

 

i had the f22b1 in my 94 ex accord, you dont feel the vtec since its a three stage and made more for gas mileage. Get an f22a6, they out flow the DOHC vtec and if your want to boost it you'll see much better numbers over a vtec sohc. also if you want just that added power find a h23 intake manifold it bolts right up. if you do that you can keep your same non vtec ecu and wont have to wire up anything. the head can be found at any junkyard out of an lx or ex 90 to 92 accord i believe. and if you did mess upi your block get a f23 block with k20 pistons and an f22a6 head and you'll really be pushing some power. Just some food for thought, vtec isnt everything unless you'er rocking a b series IMO

 

^Did you just say VTEC isn't anything unless it's a B? An H22 has way more gonads stock than any stock B16/18/20 I've driven. Granted I haven't driven a B18C5 but my H22A was well worth the cost of time and effort for the swap.

in my shop we just swapped a JDM Type-R in my boys EK and i raced him with my daily H22 and beat him by half a car. Lol We also had it dyno'd he only made 111 torque. I think a F22A has more torque that that stock.

 

That's good to know. I've been thoroughly impressed with my H but knowing it can beat or at least match a C5 makes me even happier I spent $1900 instead of $4900 for a full swap as long as it doesn't start eating oil like some other luders here

 

i said vtec isnt EVERYTHING lol. My last project before my eg was a 94 accord with an h22a, and yes its was welll worth it. im just saying that if he's considering putting a vtec head on his f series block its not going to be the same thing as when you do lets say a b20/v. the f22b1 head's vtec isn't performance oriented.

 

Alright well you're still not making a lot of sense because he's talking about ditching the F22 head in the first place and the major difference in a B20V and G23/22 will be low to mid range torque. As it stands though, I don't think the OP is going to spring for a G23 build since it does take some work. Just swap in another F or go for an H. Especially if reliability is a concern

 

how do people still not understand its vtec not vtech i mean its written on the honda engines..didnt u look up the "vtec" h22 anyways and see it says vtec right on it? lol damn.

and id just throw in another fseries and take advantage of having the tranny and engine serperated, put a better clutch in, and turbo it with a low boost setting and youll be making the same power if not more than a h22a for the same price if not cheaper. unless youre gong to have an n/a build or something or have got a good deal on one thats what i would do.

if money is not a problem buy the entire engine and sale the old one as parts or something the other guy is right god knows what else got mess up, i seen this before 20 times and it always ends up been more problems then you think making it time consuming and money wasting.
