Need better solution for bolting down wastegate
This is the manifold/wastegate setup I have

The main problem is the angle to get to the bolts is so hard because of the large bulb area that makes up the top part of the wastegate. I don't have a socket joint that's small enough or flexible enough to fit in there.
So I used the allen head bolts that came with the manifold. Even then using an allen wrench that's balled on the end to get at angles really can't do it either. I struggled like mad to get it together.
Well tonight I tried to pull the wastegate off with only about 1000 miles on the setup and found the bolts had galley'd up some and sized in there so bad I struggled for over an hour to get the bottom bolt out. What a major PITA. And yes I had put some anti-seize compound on when assembling. It probably just gets so hot. If I had tried this after 5k miles I'm sure I would have been boned.
I'm thinking some stainless steel bolts from the hardware store tomorrow but I'm worried about how in the heck I'm gonna fasten them down. Any tricks? do they make some sort of swivel socket extension that gets severe angles? I need to do some searching.
Thanks
Malcolm

man that looks like it would be hell, my only suggestion would be to convert that flange to a tial MVS wastegate flange and sell that 2 bolt 38mm and get a MVS, it will make life MUCH easier thats IF you remove the wg alot if not it might not be worth the money

or maybe even one of these to rotate the bolt holes, though youd have to refab the dump

hope that helps!

Yes it's hell. I wish I'd known about the MVS style when I started the project. That's definitely the way to go. Pretty pricey upgrade for me now though.
I'm thinking I may try and visit my local sears and see if there's some sort of socket joint piece or some solution that's compact and can get a better angle.

Well it's back on and with bolts this time.

Went to sears first thing in the morning to see if they had something better than a wobble socket extension but they don't open till 10am. So went to the hardware store and got a variety of stainless steel allen head bolts and regular bolts and lock washers etc. and went home to figure it out.
The solution ended up been using a 12 point socket so it could sit half on the bolt head at an angle, use a wobble extension and the socket wrench itself halfway out the socket extension. What a rig but it works for now.
