Default Any home remedy to remove duplicolor paint off of valve cover?

i have the whole valve cover off so i thought i might as well paint it. it has some metallic duplicolor on it and im not trying to go buy a can of aircraft paint stripper. i was planning on just sanding it off but is there anything that would help me take the paint off such as rubbing alcohol etc? even if it helped just a little to help me scrape it off. where the oil cap is, there was some oil that spilled and that paint came off relatively easy. any thoughts? thanks

Nothing beats sanding it. May be more work but at least you are bruising the metal for the primer to get a firm stick on.

Why not the aircraft remover? You'd be done in 10 min. I love that stuff!

Lacquer thinner will take it off, but it is the same price as aircraft remover. Rubbing alcohol won't do too much.

Yep. OR, you can waste LOTS of time trying to sand it down and good luck sanding in the nooks and crannies. I spent over an hour sanding down my B-series valve cover and failed to get a lot of paint off, my brother came by, sprayed it with aircraft remover and you could pretty much eat off of the valve cover now. Hours of work or minutes, you decide.

i used rubbing alcohol and it literally took 95% of it off so i guess if anyone needs to clean off a valvecover then thats what to use. ive used aircraft stripper before(dont stand over it, wear long sleeve shirt and dont breathe in the fumes. the fumes wil make ur skin itch like crazy) and ti works i just wasnt trying to spend more money but anyways

If alcohol took it off, it definitely wasn't applied correctly.

Laquer will probably be your best bet cause those duplicolor cans are laquer paint but I would say use zip strip/aircraft remover. Laquer goes trough your skin if contact to skin to your liver in like 2 sec

na i did prep it fairly decent. i used aircraft stripper to remove the oem wrinkle paint then i sanded it and scuffed it up then i sprayed it with the metallic duplicolor blue and did multiple thin layers. didnt do a primer under the paint though . i used a bottle of rubbing alcohol and pulled it almost all off
now i got the red wrinkle looks much better
