i just got my car straight pipe all the way from my headers to the back . 2 and a quarter. is there a silencer or could i install a stock exhaust with a silencer because this is extremely loud and i dont want to get pulled over.....

i have a spot around here, i could buy a oem stock integra muffler, but would it quiet down atleast alittle. its soo loud, but i love how it pulls now....

 

You could try getting a resonated test pipe, or install a resonator to your exhaust system. Pep Boys sells them for like $30.

 

I hear catalytic converters work well. And they don't kill babies.

its a straight f-n pipe all the way from the headers to the back(loud *** hell). no exhaust system at all. so i wont waste money if i go install a stock(exhaust) i dont want no fart cannon just stock. ill even throw a silencer on it if i can

 

Yeah throw on the stock exhaust, itll be much better.

Or you can install a muffler and a resonator. Either would be great.

On my Prelude I ran a cat, resonator and otherwise straight exhaust. Sounded great, wasnt raspy or too loud at all. I also had a H23 in it though, makes a big difference :D

second, arthas already explained to me that it would help to get a exhaust system...i always thought when people went straight pipe it meant all the way from the header"to the bumper

 

imo a straight pipe is a exhaust system... just one that ignores sound and emissions.

You act like people are talking crazy when the things theyre saying are quite logical. A stock exhaust system uses a cat, resonators and a muffler, of which you say you know what it sounds like. Do u know why it sounds like that? (insert answer) Now do u know(understand) why your system is so loud? (apply logic here) The two systems i just referenced are at opposite ends of the spectrum. Any of the suggestions given will put you somewhere between those two ends.

Now i want to ask. Why go so free flow only to throw on a bottle neck stock muffler on the end? Do you understand what the result could be? If you didnt want it loud you chose an entirely wrong route to go. I went with a stock type r exhaust for this reason. Aside from the suggestions given to you earlier i would read up some more on exhaust size and performance. Theres a really great in depth article on team integra.

 

If you install a stock exhaust with no cat, it will be louder than stock, but it will be much quieter than it is now.

 

' i get you and i apologize to anyone who was just tryin to help i didnt mean to snap at you...., i know what your saying, i just needed to get new piping done, old piping was dragging every time i went down a drive and it was old and rusted as ****, so i went and got new piping down for real cheap im just trying to decide witch muffle to go with to quiet down my straight new pipe, i dont want to use a cat, ill use a resonator and a stock exhaust tip ....im just hoping its not as loud as it is now..****in race car status....

 

If you have a high flow cat and a 2.5" exhaust with a twin loop muffler you will have better performance AND lower noise than the system you are proposing.

 

dont get me wrong if i had the money i would go all out, but i got this straight pipe done for only a 80 real cheap a friend of mine
im on a budget, im going to go to my local performance parts store next week payday buy a stock exhaust tip for my integra, go to my local muffler shop have them weld it on and put a resonator hope it quiets it down JUST A LITTLE

 

People use straight pipe exhaust to eliminate flow restrictions, such as: cat, resonator, muffler.
You spent $80 to make you a straight pipe and now you want to pay more to install the flow restriction that was on your car before.
The whole maneuver doesn't make sense.
If you want a muffler, at least get a high flow muffler. Greddy EVO2 and Apexi WS2 sound really well.
This same rule applies to all modifications you are looking to make to your car - cheap pays twice. Better save some money and get a quality part right away. I learned the hard way...

 

but like i said, i did this to get rid of my old rusted,hanging, clogged cat exhaust system.

so i decided **** it go straight pipe,. im just in the market now for a quieter exhaust tip , {note the title of thread} im trying to keep it straight pipe without the cat so i get better air flow ....

 

what i plan on doing...thank you athas ...and everyone for your advice
