who here has a DC5 with carbon fibre hood which is painted?
whoz got a painted DC5 carbon fibre hood....dunno how it looks, scared that it would turn out looking like galvonised iron
If you paint a carbon fiber panel it will come out looking like any other painted body panel.
The problem is that most fibreglas bonnets I've seen for our cars are of shoddy construction and feature rediculous scoops/vents, etc.
Carbonfibre body panels should always be painted on a street-driven car. The paint helps to protect the resin from sun damage and stone chips.

The fiberglass hood I was referring to was an OEM style. 90% of the carbon fiber hoods on the market have a fiberglass skeleton. For a fiberglass hood you just use fiberglass instead of carbon fiber. The fiberglass hood doesn't come clear coated of course but it is primmered. If a reputible company makes a carbon fiber body panel then you don't need to worry about sun damage since they use a higher quailty resin and clear coat helps for stone chips. Although you should paint your panels unless you like your car to be mixed colors.
Cool.
I've never seen a nice fibreglas bonnet for our cars (didn't say there was no such thing though). It's good to know they're out there.
