The first thing that came to my mind when i got my Del Sol was that i wanted 50/50 tails for it. But i can't find them anywhere, then i came across this post on HT where this guy said that the tails pictured above were the only one of their kind in the world...which i find hard to believe. So if anybody could tell me how i could acquire these that would be great.

 

Im not sure if it will work for those tail lights but a co-worker of mine wanted 50/50 tails on his integra so he opened up the tail lamp housing with a heat gun then heated a corner of the amber and pulled it off leaving clear plastic behind...

 

I know the orange tint in stock front turn signals is removable, I have my stock tails sitting around and don't mind ruining them. I can try popping them open and seeing if the color just comes off like suggested by Nickeg.

So I just checked, and the stock lights are 100% orange plastic all the way through. One of my lights had a broken socket housing so I just cracked the lens to check and it's not clear with a film, sorry dude. Its a crappy iTouch pic but its a shot I took of the cross-section of plastic.


Solid orange. Good luck finding those lights and hopefully others find this small bit of info useful when considering options to modify their stock taillights.

those are the old school all clear tail lights.. someone taped off half of the light and sprayed it with that red clear paint... i haven't seen any of those in a long time...

Why do people have such a problem with oem tails? They look a hellof a lot better than anything else ive seen. And they wont get u rear ended, good luck with those blacked out altezzas bro hopefully u dont get pulled over for low visability.

 

It is more than likely that if you were ever rear ended, even though it would be their fault. They could sue you because of those tail lights because they are so dark.

I know the next county over from me Santa Rosa,FL they are illegal. Blacking out headlights and tail lights that are visual safety equipment are just a bad idea.

 

I took the same tail lights, opened them, and painted them. I think it's a simple way to get unique looking tails while keeping the full functionality of a clear lens.

I dont have a problem with the OEM tails, i actually want a pair, i just did this to cover the gay altezzas for the time being. and i know i could get pulled over but i really just dont care...**** the Police lol. You can still see the lights perfectly fine anyways so i'm not worried.

Really? i can't even tell what you painted? but if you like it that's all that matters. i just wanted them to blend in with car till i get OEM's.

Second off, you seriously can't see the difference in the shrouds? Before it's silver, after it's some kind of black chrome color.

 

Sorry, they're actually sparkle metallic blue, but the room was pretty dark for a pic I guess, and the blue around them might lend to the confusion.

maybe find some clear tails(all clear like back in 96) and get red paint(glass stainer) and do it yourself...but finding clear lights are hard now-a-days.

Secondly...blacked out tails are illegal in civilized areas that have vehicle inspections. No..u can't see them fine.

Third..That goes up as one of the worst mod ideas ever. It totally takes away from the rear of the car. The accent provided by the red tails is universally pleasing.
I just can't imagine someone standing back afterword and thinking it looks better.
If it's a Tl-s or something with factory light smoke, ok. But this is .

Those lenses are actually from a very small amount made in egypt. I doubt you'll find them regardless, but just FYI, they are not the all clear lexus RX style lights from APC and then painted.
