Icon2 Rattle while Turning=Replace half shaft?

Been wrenching on my rallycross (SCCA, not the wheel to wheel) 90 Honda Hatch. Noticed a crunching/gravely sound from left front wheel area when turning left. I'm used to a CV joint "clicking" when going out but after inspection I'm seeing a lot of CV joint grease all over the place. The leak seems to be localized in the outer joint area, it's on the back of the brake dust shield and tie rods. Can't find a tear. From my research on HT I'm assuming I need to replace the half shaft?

That's what I was thinking from reading on here but I'm used to hearing CV's "click" not this crunch sound.

Yeah, my local Auto-zone has em for $60.

Thanks for helping back up my conclusion.
