Default 2nd gear not very smooth in RSX???

i bought a Type S about a month ago, no problems, its bad *** thats all i can say, except one thing, sometimes when i shift into second it makes kind of a grinding noise maybe, perhaps thats not the right word to use but i assume its not supposed to do that.

i asked the dealership and they said its a delay designed for the RSX, but if its "designed" to do that then shouldn't it do it all the time? well i'm going back on tuesday to have a tech ride with me and see for himself what i'm talking about...anyone have any insite on this prob?

i hear you on that i've noticed that too on it i thought it might of been just me. I think it might be me shifting wrong i think if you go to the left instead straight down which i think i do it makes that sound. Sometimes i shift and no sound nice and smooth. Try when you are a dead stop shifting from one to second its smooth thats why i think it might be me

It's a known problem with the syncro in the Type-S. The dealers are supposed to know about it by now, and your car has to be in the VIN range. Acura put out a bulletin on it:

well, i went to the dealership, they said they couldn't feel or hear anything, so i test drove it with them and as usual my luck sucks, it happened not to do it during the test drive. So they told me until they can duplicate the problem and see whats causing it then they can't replace my transmission. But what do you know, the minute i left the dealership, it grinded like a ****....rotten timing i guess...and no it wasn't my driving cause i was driving the car with them and it never grinded once, although it usually only grinds when the car is still cold and it's cold outside...so usually in the first 15 or 20 min of driving in the cold...

Yes, many owners have had this problem. Acura has replaced numerous 2nd gears from people I know with 6-speed trannys. Of course the dealer is going to play dumb unless it's beyond obvious. That's their job....take you to the cleaners when you buy your car from them, ignore you once you leave the lot with your new car, play dumb if you ever come back to claim the warranty that they talked through the roof before they had your money in their pockets. You gotta love the way we buy cars in America. Just keep taking it back everytime it grinds, bring the tech service bulletin everytime you go, and if this sort of luck keeps following you, ask them for the regional manager and take the issue up with him. If all else fails, call the American Honda Motor Company here in Torrance, CA.

Squeak until they oil you!!
