removing paint from wheels
just bought an fg2. the last owner painted the wheels black. what can i use to take off the paint and not take off the original wheel paint. or will i just have to clean them up to the bare rim metal?
spray painted them right?
i'd try something like goof-off in a small spot. don't let any solvent sit on the rim very long. but the spray paint should succumb to any solvent long before the factory chemically-hardened/cured paint will. you'll probably struggle with paint near the center as heat from the brakes would've helped to better cure the spray paint.
it may look like crap when the spray paint comes off, but a polish meant for clear coat and a coat of wax should bring it back.

If it was not a base coat clear coat over top of the factory paint a good amount of time with a scuff pad and some strong degreaser should do the job.
But I would suggest buying some air craft remover and just taking it to the bare wheel. Always makes for a better look after you get them redone.
