alright so i'm looking into buying this prelude...only thing is i've never done anything to any cars except stock stuff so not even a turbo added to any car before.........and just needing to know if anyone would happen to know what the VAFC should be set to...i'll put a picture of the car as well as what it has in it. thanks for any help sorry i looked around and i know stock is 4950 for when it kicks in but this is't really stock so yeah...sorry for being a complete noob....

My advice:

1..don't touch a thing.

2..I assume you are running a chipped ECU. You need to find someone with some experience and ask them to "SAVE" your current tune to a backup file before you ever think about changing anything. A decent tune will take a whole day at a shop (probably only available in very large cities) and will cost HUNDREDS$$$. Get a backup of your current tune. All it takes is a laptop (atleast if you are running hondata...idk about the others).

3. going back to advice 1: I say don't touch anything because:

a. with your mods, if it is running smooth then don't fix what ain't broke. I am pretty sure that your car is tuned very well and changing even the vtec throws off the tune.
b. 4950 sounds about right for vtec engagement. Honda usually sets it higher but that is for fuel economy and a sportier feel when it engages. 4950 gives you an earlier, less sudden, engagement and starts making more power earlier.
c. also, vtecs are rumored to not be good boost-candidates. for that reason also, I suggest leaving it at 4950. Moving it higher will cause a more noticable "thrill" when it engages, but it is a very sudden change inside the motor and it wasn't designed for boost. Sudden opening of extra valves would scare me because of the rumors.

Also ask the person you are buying it from "WHO" tuned it for them. They might be local and give you more insight on the cars history and tune. jdm rb20 is 100% correct about not altering anything aswell. I wish you the best of luck with your purchase.

 

Apexi VAFC controller = not "chipped", its a piggy-back that adds fuel by tricking the stock ecu. BTW the by-product of this trick is that the computer retards timing, typically a bad thing/counterproductive for making more power. I was about to say the same thing about the "chipped ECU." It has to be piggyback due to OBD2.
