I know many of you have either heard of this race or seen some footage. Well, I didn't know where to add this, so I made a thread about it.

Looked more like the running of the bulls than a race.
Im speachless.
Must be nice to ruin a new race car on the first two laps?
The attrition rate in that race was horrible.

"Pro racing at it's finest!! That's why it's better to rent a ride (for a measley $10,000-$15,000+ a weekend) and have crash insurance for every race ($4000)

Yeah, that was a mess. Our car was in 9th and 10th was taken out. We were VERY close to being caught up in it. There were a number of idiot rookies (mostly on the same team) that messed up that first start. The furthest forward asshat in the Starworks Mustang "lost his brakes" (no brakes when you dive for the grass...) and his teammate (his son, I believe) in a sister car a few rows back thought he was on to something and followed him down the deep inside. Nobody saw this coming and he hit my brother's #6 Camaro and actually drove up the side of it, removing the Camaro's door and front fender. Many cars tried to limp around and broke down elsewhere, meaning the first caution alone was something like 25 minutes.
The second caution, I'm told, was caused by a Camaro on pole (not going to say a name, team, or number to keep them out of searches). He accelerated off the final corner for the green (fine, usual thing to do from pole) and then slammed the brakes just before the line, causing a 71-car accordion effect which caught out the 97 car, about mid pack. My codriver was very confident of this, and even acquired some damage which eventually delegated us to 11th by the end of the race (punctured radiator and knocked-off wires).
This was a messy race. There were too many people that didn't belong to be there. I've spoken with Grand-Am about creating real licensing system. Maybe not like Rolex with FIA certification (as an American it's still a bit tedious), but at least something to ensure safety and series image.

Watching the vid it really looked like the mustang was diving for a gap that wasn't there then he vaulted up a car so I guess I was right lol I couldn't figure out what would cause the second crash and I, now, don't understand why the lead car would get on the brakes down the front straight. Could he have thought they hadn't shown the green flag? Seems like a very odd thing to happen.
So in essence it could be said too much money to race, and not enough experience.
At the 53 second mark there is a loud bang on the car we are watching this from.
I wonder what he hit or what hit him.. or ran over?

The lead car should NOT have brakes. It is poor sportsmanship and he should have known it would cause a mess. In pro racing you can accelerate before the green. Once the pace car is in the leader can pick his own speed to balance out the fact that P2 is alongside. He accelerated quickly from the final corner, and was attempting to check people up with his brakes. The driver a a friend of mine, and a good guy, but he made a poor decision that sent two drivers to the hospital. There are changes that need to be made on Grand-Am's side. First, better understanding of what "deciding the pace" means for a restart, and secondly, as I've mentioned, to weed out idiots and ********.

Police say one of the other drivers (seen in the video, in the white Aston Martin) was seen speaking with the driver of the Mustang just an hour or so prior to the grizzly discovery of his body face down and covered in **** in a shallow creek on thursday.
The super slo mo shows Matt ahead and avoiding all that Evil Kenevil stuntman crap.
See the dark blue, red and yellow camaro about 8 cars back in the still too.

That restart, holy moly, crap everywhere. The good ol' check up move.
I have no desire to ever be on track racing with that many cars, ever. Not to mention a 2 mile long track. Comepleteley utterly ridiculous IMHO. Sanctioning body made a lot of money though.

The car counts have been a good amount in that series. They had almost 60 there, last year. At Mid-Ohio, they had around 70. So, really, it was a couple "dumb" decisions made by a few people.
