Stock D16Y7 on drag strip
So my auto shop teacher has challenged me (he is a Mopar guy) at the drag strip. He said the next time he goes out with his Dart that he wants me to come and he said that if my car runs a 16.99 second 1/4 mile that he'll pay for my entry ticket. Challenge accepted.
I've never drag raced before in my life, but I have done straight street races with friends.
P.S. My S40 tranny is a manual
1st gear Ratio 3.25
2nd gear Ratio 1.782
3rd gear Ratio 1.172
4th gear Ratio 0.909
5th gear Ratio 0.702
Final Drive Ratio 4.058
Any suggestions/pointers?

I would like to think that I am pretty good at fast shifts. I practice it a lot on the road (lol). And I only weigh like 140 lbs.
So you suggest that I just red line it before launch. Should I slip or drop the clutch?

Its all about the launch so good luck with that. Youre going to need like 5 runs to get a good feel of what RPM is good to launch at for you. There is no "pre set" launch for every car.
Oh, and youre going to lose. Have fun though, thats what its all about! Use it as a good learning experience.
Youre going to majorly fuqq up that day, I can already tell lol.
