When putting in a cv axle seal?
When I put in a axle seal that goes into the transmission how far do i push it in? Ive tryed doing this 2 times and it leaked again on both times? Can anyone help? Maybe a pic?
when i put mine it, it was cake? just picked up a timken brand from autozone. maybe lube it up a bit with some oil just to make it slide in easier. slide in the new cv shaft and
i swapped in a used trans and had this sort of problem, it was missing the drivers side axle seal. put in the cv axle and thought something was effed up. shot transmission fluid all over my brand new clutch. was a 100$ mistake because of a 5$ seal.

Those can be tricky little oil around outside and socket to get it started then once I get them close I take small punch and tap around outside of seal to ensure its flush with casing. Once in put alittle grease around the inside of the seal where it comes in contact with axle this helps seal and stop leak. Oem always works the best and they come already greased on the inside.

yeah make sure youre getting oem seal timken, or even national...those 2 are good replacement brands...i work at parts plus and whenever a customer comes in complaining about a leaking seal, i measure it and go a hair bigger on the outside and a hair smaller on the inside so it can fit snug...
Make sure it isn’t your axle causing the leak. I replaced the seal twice with OEM honda and it still leaked. Replaced the axle and it stopped leaking. I installed big ring flush with the little lip in the middle sticking out slightly.
Ditto, make sure the axle isnt grooved where it rides the seal. Usually over 200k miles on a civic and I have to start watching where I seat the crank and cam seals because they have been worn by the old seal. Usually I'll seat a seal slightly further out than the original, that is I make sure I do not bottom out the seal into the orifice when I install a nwew seal
