Icon6 My first swap, a 00 LX-to-b16. Tips for the final build?

Hey there folks! :D

Well, im starting off my first engine swap in my life, since my original D16 started to fail, and have been removed from the car.

So far i have been speculating, but alone in the dark with performance parts and what to buy, but now, i decided to share with everyone so i could get a bang for the buck and also ideas, preferably nice for my ECONO-BUILD, hehe.

The concept of the car is to be my MAIN car. So, it will be a all-purpose +- everyday car. Im just looking to do some major tune up so it will work faster, but im trying to keep it's OEM functions as best as possible ( Such as A/C and PS. )
I live in Brazil, so i can't live without A/C, lol. It's like hell here in Rio, haha.
And if i turbocharge this car, im gonna end killing up myself on the streets one day or another. I just can't have that many HP.

The car itself is a 00/00 MT Honda civic LX - White.

As i have previously said, the car is now engineless, since last year because of lack of funds/timeless thinking of the project. ( LOL )

What i already have:

A full 1996 USDM B16A2, from a 1996 civic VTi engine.
My honda civic LX, engineless.
Back arms from a 97 civic VTi, to do a four wheel disc brake mod.

What i want:

A complete rebuild, just to re-do the full engine, as if just exited honda's line of production, but being just "better" than oem.

PS: Im not unlimited funds, on the other hand, rather LIMITED. Im a university student, with ocasional job/internship

PS2: Looking for nice best-for-the-buck parts suggestions... If possible...

PS3: I don't know if i can post links, but at least ill post prices, so everybody can see/suggest another trader to buy from, but remember, im not from the US. I need companies that actually ship overseas.

So.....

ENGINE MOUNTS
PISTONS
PISTON RINGS
COMPLETE VALVETRAIN
PUMPS
BRAKES

So, for mounts i liked two cost friendly but good companies?

======================
Engine mounts
======================
359,10 - HASPORT - BILLET Stock replacement mounts 96-00 Civic AC.mm.007

281,00 - INNOVATIVE 10050 STEEL MOUNT KIT 1996-2000 Honda Civic B-Series and D-Series 60A

OBS: So, anyone against the obvious cheaper choice from innovative against hasport??

======================
Engine gaskets & STUDS
======================

I think i will stick with cometic's full top end and top bottom kits.....
Or do i go OEM? Lots of friends suggested cometic's...
I dont remember their price, but
300+- .... top end + top bottom

ARP STUDS MAIN KIT
+- 150,00 i think, dont remember. Later ill specify correctly. 4:10 am right now.

================================
PISTONS & RINGS & BEARINGS
================================

399,00 + shipping - OEM CIVIC TYPE-R "PCT" PISTONS

SUPERTECH 81.50mm 11:1 C/R P4-H815-P7 PISTONS
339,46 Supertech High Performance Forged Pistons
+61 for supertech rings

ACL RACING - Main and RODS bearings.
155 +- ?

Initially, i was just looking to raise the OEM compression of my engine, and tending to choose the OEM ALLOY JDM PCT's, civic type-r to exchange.... but people in a general way says the weight difference is not that much, and forged pistons supposedly wear much less than alloy, or im mistaken? Wich one?? Any other suggestion?? Will i loose HPS or torque with the forged ones?
Im thinking here in cost/benefit... preventive repair and other stuff...

================================
VALVETRAIN EQUIP
================================

259,99 - COMBO - Blox VTEC Valvesprings & Titanium Retainers

550,00/610,00 - COMBO - Supertech B-KIT - VALVE + VALVE SPRINGS + TIT RETAINERS + VALVE GUIDES

OBS: Here, i found a place that sells an all-in-one kit that comes with everything for the valvetrain, except for the new viton valve stems/seals?
The 550 means common flat valves, and the 610 means for black nitrided DISHED valves.

As my engine will be an almost oem, i was tending for the nitrided dished, more expensive ones, unfortunatelly, HEHE. About the stems, they dont offer on this kit, for no apparent reason?

OBS 2 : anything missing?

================================
CAMS and CAM GEARS
================================

I didnt actually deep searched for cams, because i dont have a basic clue as to wich one to choose. I wanted a cheap nice one, but every one of them are like dirty expensive :D

CAMS

THATS the greatest question, wich one you guys suggest? I wanna run, yes, i want performance, yes, but i want a nice overall, not just peak rpms, cause i hardly rev that high anyways!

CAMGEARS i will just get any ebaybrand one, they are all the same, no?

================================
BELT & PULLEY
================================

Probably the GATES blue belt with any pulley for the belt.....

================================
DRIVETRAIN - CLUTCH - FLYWHEEL
================================

226.44 Exedy Racing - Lightweight Flywheel HF01 ou 001

268.83 Exedy Racing - Stage 1 Organic Clutch Kit Stage 1 Organic Clutch 08800B

OBS: I just seem to trust exedy, in a general way, for their accomplishments, and their flywheel being of steel won't be too soft for daily driving and too-shitty-uphills-and-torque-related?

================================
DISK ROTORS
================================

100,00 - StopTech Drilled & Slotted Front Rotors - Honda/Acura

93,00 - StopTech Drilled & Slotted Rear Rotors - Honda/Acura

OBS: Im looking for a drill + slot full disc brakes, but with my 97 civic VTi rear arms i just never feel confident when choosing specific models...
A friend of mine refered them to be the same as the USDM 97 EX civics, that has rear disk brakes?

================================
PUMPS
================================

========
-- OIL
========

OEM USDM TYPE-R?

========
OIL FILTER
========

12,50 - HAMP OIL FILTER - HONDA JAPAN JDM

========
-- WATER.
========

No clue.... OEM Honda B18C or b16 Water Pump?

RADIATOR + FAN
================================

40,00 Blox Racing Red Slim Fan

185,00 Password:JDM Pro Line Aluminum Radiator - 3 row

190,00 shipped - COMBO - 2 row Blox Racing Aluminum SiR Radiator 92-00 Honda Civic + Slim Fan

300,00 (200+100s/h) EBAY-BRAND - CXRacing CIVIC EX SI B16 3 Row Radiator + Shroud + Fan

185,00 - EBAY BRAND 2 row aluminum radiator
EBAY - http://www.ebay.com/itm/88-00-CIVIC-...item20c42bbf2a

200,00 - EBAY BRAND - ALUMINUM DUAL CORE 2 ROW RACING RADIATOR + 12 fan
EBAY - http://www.ebay.com/itm/88-00-CIVIC-...item20bea42c5b

OBS: The 3 row are usually larger, but they are smaller, so in the overall wont they just get right-matched by the 2 rows? I dont know about different qualities by brands, but if anyone has any thoughts about radiators, will be dutifully appreciated! Any suggestions ?

================================
AIR INTAKE
================================

190,00 Password:JDM Carbon Power Chamber Intake EG/EK/DC2

140,00 - CONFIRM FITMENT? - AEM Short Ram Intake System - 99-00 Civic Si

Both are SRI, because i lost a block once due to hydro lock with an AEM V2 "hybrid" cold air intake.... So, thats why i dont use them no more.

OBS: btw, if any suggestion for any dirty cheap SRI anywhere, i would love to hear! Im just buying this, cause my engine didnt came with any intake at all, hahaha. So i dont know if i could just tuck in an air filter in the throttle body and GG, HEHE

================================
SUSPENSION
================================

339,99 - Blox Street Series Shocks + Lowering Springs

OBS: Are they worth it?

================================
VISUALS
================================

12,00 Blox Billet Cam Seal Version 2

OBS: How many do i need, one or two???

20,00 - EBAY short shifter + **** RED ANODIZED
http://www.ebay.com/itm/88-00-CIVIC-...item20c42bf527

================================
AIR CONDITIONING
================================

That's one of my problems. What will i do to make it run?
I have just my old LX system, but i dont think they are compatible with a b16 engine.
So.... if i exchange the compressor for a b16 one.... WHAT MORE will i need to exchange? What can i salvage to use, and what i cant?

-----------------

Well.... that's about it, i think i reached every aspect for this project?
I intend to order most parts from a single vendor to try to lessen my shipping costs. Most of the prices on the list are from a single dealer, so im probably gonna use one or two dealers to actually try to accomplish the just above.

If anyone has any suggestion, please let me know, ill really appreciate it!

Ill follow this thread as best as i can, and thanks in advance for anyone who contributes for this!

You can get used mounts for a lot cheaper, and use them. Billet mounts in an econo-build would be strictly bling factor.

Always a good choice

Just stay OEM. 11:1 pistons will require tuning to run right, and will most likely force you to run high octane, defeating the purpose of an econo-build.

Once again, always a good choice.

Stay away from Blox. Go with the Supertech, Buddy Club, Crower, or OEM.

Just get OEM cams. Type R would be a good match. Don't waste your time with cam gears - you won't need to be able to adjust them. Stay away from eBay cam gears - Cheap, faulty, Chinese hardware letting the gear slip will ruin your day fast.

Just stick with an OEM flywheel. The clutch will do well for you.

No. No no no. Just, no. Do NOT use drilled and slotted rotors. They are absolutely pointless, offer zero benefit, and unless you're spending WAY too much on them, are much more prone to cracking than disc blanks.

Complete waste of money. Stick to OEM.

All a complete waste of money. Stick to OEM. You've already said you don't want to build anything FAST, just a clean factory rebuild. If you really want one for the bling factor, spend some extra coin on a good one that'll last you a long time. Mishimoto is my preference.

This is one of the few spots were I'll say buy eBay. Get a cheap SRI, and replace the filter with a K&N.

Once again, Blox no bueno. There's a MASSIVE thread comparing different suspension setups for different price ranges. It's in the stickies. Check it out. Just don't buy Blox.

Avoid eBay short shifters. You'll be SOL when you push third and it snaps off in your hand.

IIRC, the only thing you need to go is get the A/C pump bracket off a 94-01 CRV, and you can retain all of your factory AC without having to crack the system open.

JBP, thanks for all the heads up. Really was awed that the 94-04 CRV A/C bracket would fit my car, lol.
Would you have the OEM P/N, just to help finding it? Haha

How about gates belts? And the pulley, it doesn't need to be any shining at all, right? I got a cheap one from GMB, but they seem solid... :O
