Help !! Sleeved block water leak problem
Hi guys,
Having an issue on my B16A1 sleeved block with Darton M.I.D sleeves.
The issue is that its leaking a little water on the outside of the block just behind the flywheel / clutch.
The weird thing is there is no crack and its only leaking when the engine is warm.
Its a drop or two every 10 seconds.
My builder suggest that he is going to try and save the block by welding it or use an aluminium plate or something to weld it over.
You guys think its possible to repair ?
Just wanted to here the input of what you guys think
Here are some picturs of the leak where its happening
Thanks in advance

wow... thats a really shitty block casting... Porous aluminum.
I'd just drop a little bit of JB Weld around the area if it were mine...

Jb weld = Make shift temporary fix
Weld = Permanat fix
If you cant get to a welder for now put the JB band-aid on there till you can have someone cut out a piece of aluminum to weld over it. For the casting to be that thin and porous in that spot it would be hard to put a bead of weld on that area and would blow thru probably. But putting a plate of aluminum over it and welding would prob be the best bet. Like a triangle sized shape to fit in there perfectly and weld the plate onto were the casting raises up. IF it was me that what i would do. Thats rare too see tho pretty crazy. YOure 100% positive thats where its coming from?

I didnt actually see the block
My tuner cald me right up when he saw it and told me ( The car is 200 miles from my home because it was just sleeved after a cracked sleeve )
I know i never saw anything like this before so did my tuner.
When the engine is warm the drops keep coming thru there he told me ( +- 2 drops in 10 seconds )
For the rest the engine is fine ( no sunk sleeve or water mixing with oil or any of that ****ed up **** ) my tuner did the break in this week after it was sleeved.
Really hope it can be fixed permanent it would be a shame if it cant be fixed and keeps leaking or get even wurst that would be terrible
I also think that welding some kind of plate over it would be the best option
My tuners welder is gonna weld it first thing on monday.
Really hope it turns out fine.
Thanks for all the reply's so far guys i appreciate it
If anyone else had a simular issue or has an opinion just post reply

as soon as any weld is applied to that its just gonna blow through, regardless of whether or not its a plate or not, best bet is probably to grind the area down and fill it in with weld as best you can where you can find the actual casting flaw that is leaking the worst.

Don't weld it. If you were going to weld it, you would have had to do that before you sleeved, final machined it. Aluminum is such a great conductor of heat, that it will at the very least warp the block welding it. Not to mention the blow through issue that could arise. How the hell did this happen anyway? Might wanna talk to the shop that sleeved it.
That is just crazy it is leaking there period....especially since there is no machining done in that area when they sleeve the block. SO if it wasnt like that before i would blame the machine shop and have them fix it

I also thought about the machine shop maybe made an error but my tuner kept telling me that its a 20 year old engine and that these things can happen because of old casting
Is it thru that the Darton sleeves cant be used again unless the are overbored ?
Because otherwise if it turns out the bad way ill have to buy new pistons and everything
