Fairly new plugs black.. Change them?
I put new spark plugs in about 8 months ago.. The old ones were in there a while and had white ish tips. I check my new ones the other day and they're pitch black and coated. Any idea why this is happening and should I put new ones in? Its not like the tips are gone lol
Sounds like excess carbon build up.. could be a number of things: Improper spark plug gap, running too rich, or you have oil leaking into the combustion chambers. Are the plugs a wet black or a dry black?
?? They come pre gapped. Also its funny you mention that because for some reason oil started coming in through the hose that goes from the intake to the valve cover. Why does this happen? To much oil?
The parts counter guys only tell you they're "pre-gapped", I always check the gap before installing plugs and make sure it's in specs with what the label under the hood says for good measure.
You may want to check your pcv (positive crankcase ventilation) valve. If it's stuck open the tubing can start to slowly pull oil through. They only cost a few bucks at the auto parts store and are easy to swap. Other than that I don't see why it would be sucking oil through, but it is a good idea to make sure you don't over fill your car with oil, you can blow gaskets and seals since it creates more pressure.
