Icon2 Automatic Transmission "slipping"

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum and am hoping you can help with a problem that my son is having with his car (1991 honda accord). He says the the sport mode light comes on, and that the car revs, but doesn't really go very fast. It seems to me like it is slipping. I thought the transmission was low on fluid, but it seems ok. I guess my next step will be to change the fluid in the tranny.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

John

Ps His car was stolen last year, and they cut of the catalytic convertor. In doing so, they destroyed the flex pipe. I'm looking for cheap parts to fix the exhaust. Anyone in the Milwaukee area have anything I could buy cheap?

Hmm usually the d4 light flashes when the tranny has a problem. The sport light should only be used when on the highway/freeway; it just lets the car rev up higher I remember, maybe there's a lose wire somewhere or he's accidentally hitting it without knowing. My old '90 slipped all the time from 1st to second but it held up fine. I suggest changing the transmission fluid with gm synchromesh. As far as parts, go to a local junkyard/wrecker and see what's available. Good luck.
