Default '81 Honda CB900c

So I picked up a cb900c, and am starting to pick up a few parts for it slowly but surely... Anyhow, it currently has K&N filters on it, but I am hearing alot of people talk about it needing the airbox hooked up in order to work the vacuum for the slides in the carbs? Am I hearing this wrong or is this fact? Also, if it is fact, is there a way to cap it, or plug it in elsewhere to make them work properly?

Thanks in advance!

you do not need a common airbox for CV carbs to work. But it may work better with a box.
first thing I would do is dump the CV's.

is your bike silver with blue stripes and a 16" front wheel?
