This idle is killing me...88 d15
Ok, I will tell you guys everything about that car...that i know of...
I have an 88 STD hatch, with a D15b2 swap w/5spd...It has a small crack in the radiator (which i'm replacing in a couple weeks) and the PCV hose is just hangin'..not plugged in to anything...If those might have a factor, just putting them out there...
The Problem: Start the car up cold on >60* day...everything is normal until the car gets to op temp and the idle will bounce up and down OR rev up and stick sometimes both...I've read alot about the surge but haven't came across anyone with the rev sticking as well..I'd appreciate any help, thanks

sounds like a vaccum leak check all the hoses on ur IM are secured .. also u mentioned PCV just hanging if its not connected on both ends thts ur source of the leak make sure all lines are good and if they are then check you idle air control valve
iacv would be the first thing I would check they sometimes get clogged up but your coolant level also plays a huge roll as well. check your fluid levels and check for vac leaks and then if nothing pull off the iacv and clean it out well with brake cleaner and air.
I cleaned the iacv couple weeks back...pretty sure it wasn't that..
My problem with the PCV is that there is no where to put it on the intake manifold, so I don't know what to do about that..
Coolant level could make sense...since it's doing it when it reaches temp..

This is what Id say also...could just be bad
I had the same problem and tried every suggestion before figuring out it was my throttle cable. It was too tight. It didn't seem too tight. The throttle lever on the throttle body did not look like it was being pulled but the tension on the cable was just enough to cause hi reving idle and also surging. The factory manual states there need's to be about 3/4" (i think) of slack in the cable. Loosened the cable and idle problem was gone.

Well I got a new radiator from OEHQ.com...ordered a 23" manual trans rad and i got a 27" for an auto...after calming down I put it in and it works fine...Drove around yesterday and I think it might have worked.
Bleed the system by using the 10mm bleeder nut located on your thermo housing. Warm it up, crack it until the bubbles stop then you should be gtg. Unless there is a problem with you IACV or FITV

There should be a trouble shooting write-up with this info. Doing these to things and cleaning my IACV made an immaculate difference in the performance of my engine.
I used to idle high - throttle cable too tight
It used to surge only at operating temp - cleaned IACV and bled coolant
VERY SIMPLE fixes to VERY ANNOYING issues.
