Default Are Sunroofs prone to leak?

I was looking at buying a DX because it did not have a sun roof but am finding that there are very little dx models that are 5 speed and silver like I really wanted. So I am going to look into an Ex model aswell..but the sun roof is a real concern for me. I am worried of it leaking. I know that if it does, I know how to fix it more or less, but my question is, is it prone to leaking? And do the motors go bad frequently? And what about rust in that area?

Thanks a lot!

Not mine. Maintain it and there should be no issues. Just like anything else on the car.

OEM sunroofs really only ever leak if the drain tubes get plugged.

Keep the tracks lubed and the drain tubes clear. Might want to make sure the weatherseal is clean as well.

I love my dx mpgs but miss the sunroof and other amenities found in the ex. They are reliable as been stated just like the power windows.

Grumble marc i understand maintaining the rails and keeping the drains clean but is there a way to service the motor? My buddys 96 ex is moving really slow wen closing and we have lubed the rails and cleaned all debris out and he doesnt want to replace the motor, will it be inevitable? Again its fine wen opening but slows down to the point of needing hand assistance wen closing.

My dx hatch has an aftermarket sunroof in it...I hate it, it leaks. I want to find a plug OR weld it shut.

Lol my old crx had one. Is it the kind that u can only prop open and has fasteners attached to the glass? I HATE those. Dont even give u a slider to keep the glare out.

Ive never had a problem with an OEM sunroof, whether it was on one of my civics, or my 240, or any of my jeeps.

If the motor id failing then he has to replace it. I really don't know if they are serviceable.

I feel like the cruise control would help out a lot...especially when tired. I also feel like power windows would help out aswell...but it all comes down to longevity..If this was maybe a 2008 or I bought it new then I wouldn't question it...but since it already would be 16-12 years old...

Alright I will look into those aswell when I am looking at the car to see if it has even been maintained. Thanks!

I heard the same thing from someone else. Thanks, I will make sure the drain tubes would be kept free from obstruction. I am assuming like leaves and crap gets put up in there.

That is interesting to hear, so I Am assuming aslong as its an EX and the sun roof is stock then there really would be nothing to worry about?

What about the Power windows?

the power windows are fine you just might have to replace the window regulator as with manual windows every once in awhile. Just get whatever you can find that is clean, low mileage, and stock if I was looking for a driver. If the car is lowered ask what kind of parts are on it. Ebay coil or no name 50 buck coils suck and ride like junk.

Thanks for the response. I will make sure that the car has not been lowered. If a person installed a suspension kit I would be concerned on if it was done incorrectly.

Thanks for all the help, so basically an EX model trim is just as reliable and durable as the dx trim. Right?
