Default Help!!! Car overheating

I have a 97 accord LX...... a while back i was sittin in a parkin lot waiting for my friend and the temp. start to raise rapidly so i shut the car off, i looked under the hood and saw that the fans were not on to cool off the engine, so i tried pushin the fan with my finger to see if it still worked and it spun and then lost speed again and stopped, it has been like that for a while now i just cant leave the car running for very long without moving..my ? is, what the hell is wrong with the fan?

were u in an accident before it happened possibly thye could have rewired it wrong. may just need to replace them. do they turn on at all? Maybe try and ran a switch to them so u can control when they turn on.

Fan switch could be faulty. Or could be the wiring. Fuse. Check them all. Of course the fan would lose speed.

Could be the fan motor too. Does the A/C fan work?

The other fan does come on sometimes with the A/C but i am super low on fre-on so whenever i use the A/C something shuts off but the compressor is still going and then the temp. gauge goes up real fast then because no fans come on. Which one on the 97 LX is the compressor fan and which one is the radiator fan. And where is the fan switch located at?

No the car has never been in a accident before, the fan on the altenator side just doesn't ever move, unless you touch it then it tries then dies back down again.

The fan on the alternator side is the A/C fan and shouldnt come on without the A/C being on. The fan on the battery side, is your regular fan.

BOTH of my fans turn on when A/C is on... and stay on. I was always under the impression they are both on the same fan relay. (when a/c is on anyway)

However if your A/C is low on freeon: the pressure switch will cut the A/C compressor clutch and fan relays... a/c on/off be damned.

My 1990 LX both fans came on with the A/C too (even if the car was cold) ... I'll look in my electical troubleshooting manual tonight to make sure that is infact normal operations.

When my A/C is off the fan then operates using the temp sensor.

Both fans should run when A/C is on. I just didnt make that too clear in my post.

chances are his main cooling fan is dead for whatever reason... and the fact his a/c is hosed just compounds the issue. figure out why your main cooling fan is hose, and you shall be one with nature grasshoppa

I did some figuring out tonight, here is my assumption: The radiator fan works fine when it turns on by itself, for instance the fan turns on and it goin at full speed for a full cycle then shuts off. The next time its time to turn on it wouldn't come on sometimes unless you nudged it a lil' with your finger. That would most likely mean that (which i just now remembered) i rear-ended a lady a few months back but it wasn't anything major, im thinking that from that little accident that the fan got somewhat ****-eyed and in a certain spot the brushes in the motor were not touching so every once in a while with the touch of my hand it would go past the dead brush spot and go full speed. As for the other fan that thing wobbles like crazy so i would say i am going to have to get two semi-used fans from somewhere and just replace them.
