I am trying to replace the gasket in the spool valve, but it stuck on the head. I removed the three bolts, but it stuck on there. Any advice, is there something I am not doing correctly? Helms just say to remove it but I can't get that sucker off.

1. How do you get to this, just take off the valve cover?
2. Are aftermarket seals just as good or should I get oem?

^This, a few companies make very good metal ones with 3 big o-rings on them for sealing, been using a golden eagle one for a couple of years and so far my engine is clean and dry. All other seals OEM only.

how do you get this sucker off anyway? The OEM one is plastic, the one in the head is metal, it is getting torn up by the screw driver and now can spin, with the rubber torn away some I can see a cap, metal I think, all spins together, but I can't get it off.

I went out and found this, and after looking at this I think the dealership sold me the wrong part.
Well it looks like they don't want me to post from another forum.... sorry
The plug they sold me has 4 clips on the end that goes into the head and is not one solid wall ring back there. At the bottom of the link you can see where somone tore theirs up similar to mine. So I think I have the wrong part and it looks like i need to pull the valve cover off.
Do you think I have the wrong part, or is that 4-prong style what they changed it to?

It looks like this:

see post number 5, the round plug in the palm of the guys hand. That is the cam plug the dealer sold me today for my H22A1 VTEC. Is this the right part?

The one they sold you is for a 01-05 Civic SOHC, wrong part.
To remove yours you have to remove the valve cover then oil bridge going across the intake cam then remove the cam cap at the end where the plug is, you cannot just pry it out like the newer Honda engines.

I believe you said to get the golden eagle one, is this the correct part?

#2 I took off the vtec selinod and would like to put it back on while I wait for the part, does it need to be off to replace this seal?

You don't have to remove it to replace the cam plug since you replace the plug from the top, remove both cam oil bridges then remove the cam cap that goes over the distributor shaft and cam plug to replace it.
That is the right part, B and H series cam plugs are the same part #.

I got 15 years out of my plastic OE plug, and about 3 out of my aftermarket metal 3 o-ring piece. Stock cam plugs work best

^What brand were they? So many people swear by the metal ones, if mine fails in a couple of years it's going in the trash.
