SETUP HELP
hi i normally run my 1996 integra gsr in a mini stock class on oval tracks.(left turns only) this year the tour i am on will be racing the road coarse at new hampshire motor speedway. i have no clue on how to setup a car for roadcoarse. can anyone get me started? spring rates, toe, camber, etc
i run stock front bar and 22mm rear bar.

What tires are you going to run? Track day or sanctioned race?
Coil over setup so you can just change out springs?
Lets start with that information and I will help out if nobody else does.

hoosier 800s. sancationed event with the northeast mini stock tour. i run racing springs with skunk2 twistie cups. right now in car i have rf-250 lf-200 rr-285 lr-175
thanx for help....ill take all the info ur willing to dish out.

Probably start off with around -2.5 front -1.5 rear camber on the hoosiers and go from there.
Im assuming skunk 2 twistie cups are the sleeves maybe? Spring rates are going to be preference but something like 400 fronts / 350 rears to start out with may work for you.
I personally run 500f/800r and 800f/1100r depending on the track and tires.
Toe just leave at 0 for now in my opinion.

Lets go back a bit.
Before you start out with a "set up" Go out and learn how to drive the car bone stock or in the condition its in now.
You shouldnt be thinking about setting it up with someone elses "set up" on it.
That almost never works.
You need to understand how the car handles stock and then as you progress and get faster...
Trust me this isnt after one day at the track.
Then you start looking at changing things on the car,one thing at a time.
Learn your car first.. learn to drive it well stock first.
Then start experimenting with set ups.
Turning right and left is a lot different than left only.
I swear we cover this same thing every week.
I need to find that "set up" thread and bring it back.
The worst advice we can give someone a "set up" that has no roadcourse experience, when they dont know their car and how it handles on a roadcourse.

Dirty, this one is a little different...cant exactly go hit the road course like this?

He races the vehicle already like he stated, this will be his first road course. its not like hes doing a track day with a stock car looking for advice like most.

Dirt tracking and road coursing are two different beasts.
Straights, different left and right turns, off camber turns, elevation changes.
If he doesnt know how to set up the car, he doesnt know how the car will react.
Sooooooooooo Ok Id say a mild set up would suit him better.
Nothing crazy like 7-900 springs.

Right, thats why I suggested 400/350 as a base to start from.
I know it gets old having nubs come in and ask for setup help but for a guy racing already, in a different type of racing, I dont see why not.
He obviously has car control at this point and can probably handle his own and just needs a base to start with.

We need more stickies for the noobs, and Frank policing the forum more.
Im gonna find that "set up" thread and you all can understand why its not wise to give a noob a set up.

Before you all start giving advice, you really should get more information. Particularly about the tire. I'm not familiar with the Hoosier 800s. If it's a bias ply tire, lots of static camber is a sure fire way to wear the tire out prematurely. Can the OP tell us more about the tire? Is it a radial or a bias ply? What is it's operating temperature? Is it spec tire for the series, or just what you're using because you use it on dirt?
More spring is probably not a bad idea. How much does the car weigh, and are you using the OE suspension geometry?

No way to know all the variables , this comes with time and testing but they keep poping all the time hoping somebody has the magic solution .
Now you people understand why is impossible to setup a car on a forum where every user has a different idea of how to do it.
We don't even know this guy experience on road course .
Given he knows how to drive in dirt, completely different in asphalt.
Even pros like wrc can't drive on asphalt as good as in dirt.
You just prove the point that we keep insisting about this threads . There is no way to help anybody in a forum to set up a dang race car.

Im gonna find that long "set up" thread we had last year.
The way I read this post was an established racer with oval tracks, looking for hints/help with basic get-er going advice/settings for road race. Not exactly something I have EVER seen posted, ever.
Anywho--I like the post! And the great "known" answers.

I understand that, but still its a very interesting post to me. Dirty or not!

I would like to know more about how his setup is for the dirt and how it compares...we might learn something, well, I might learn something, well dirty!

hopefully you can go for rides there? min. spring rate i recommend is 10 kg/mm or about 550 lbs/"... maybe somebody is unloading their used koni/ground control setups here? did you check the forsale thread.
will this be a track only car or you need to drive to/from the track? post some pix of your little oval racer. i'd love to see it. i imagine you like to do:
here's a crazy idea.. go to a test and tune day before that race weekend and run the car. see wat the car does and adjust it from there.. just take several set of springs with you and go at it until you feel happy with how it handles
