Hi guys, I have a 97 civic dx coupe with a manual transmission and a stock d16y7. Just over the last week or so when I clutch in to upshift or downshift my rpm's will stay where they were when the car was in gear. For example, if im cruising at 3k rpm and i clutch in to upshift to fifth the car will idle at 3k and not come down untill i tap the pedal a few times. Being that was the only solution to the problem I figured it needed a new TPS. So i replaced the sensor, set it up correctly and also cleaned the IAC valve. I still have the same issue. I am a full time mechanic so this stuff is not new to me I just was looking to get a second opinion on the situation maybe from someone who has experienced this, before I just throw a new IAC valve in the car. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

 

CEL codes?

Is the throttle body dirty and sticking open? Is the throttle cable too tight?

 

clean your IACV.

 

no cel or dtc's. I cleaned the throttle body and the iac valve and im certain throttle is not sticking open and the cable is not too tight.
