Default Turboing B18B1 with Turbonetics T72 turbo

This turbo is large, and heavy as ****. I'm gonna guess its 20lbs.

I'm worried about how heavy it is (I bought an ebay iron cast manifold)

Ive read around where people would use brackets to support the turbo's weight, double manifold gaskets, bigger bolts I think...

I need more opinions. I would even consider relocating the turbo elsewhere in the car. I want to mount it somewhere where I won't worry about it. I would be down to use brackets to support the weight, but I need more opinions before I go any further, I'll return the manifold or buy another if needed.

If anyone is selling a top mount turbo manifold, I will buy!

Thanks

your powerband is going to be horrible. find something better suited for the application.

I'm gonna stick with it, I think it will do fine. It has a .58 exhaust side, the smallest turbonetics offers. Once its one and if I don't like it, I'll trade it for something smaller. I plan on only running 8 -10lbs

Massive turbo for a low revving engine. you should have about 1000rpm of powerband if your lucky, wow that will be a fun car for sure !

Haha, is it still considered a powerband when the tires spontaneously combust on the boost hit?

All the Ebay cast manifolds feature a T3 flange, not a T4 flange. The only T4 flange cast manifold I know if is the InlinePro one.

Honestly, an old style 72mm turbo like the Tnetics should be good for 750, maybe 800whp on a Honda. Even with the .58 A/R housing you're looking at starting to build boost at 5000+ RPM's, which would drive like ***** on a low-rev B18B.

Sell it, and get something more appropriate. Period. You'd drop out of boost after every shift and your car really wouldn't be a whole lot faster.

For all the money you'd dump into a pos LS head, it's not worth it. Just buy a better suited turbo

H-T happens to be one of those forums that are harsh; especially when this is clearly a bad move to try and do. But in the end, its your car, you can invest (or waste) whatever, however you want, and most here will sit back and watch the train wreck happen, (laughing and pointing) or they will attempt to help you, like so many have here.

Having said that.. I'll say this.. GET ANOTHER TURBO TO USE AND STOP WASTING MONEY AND TIME ON THE LS HEAD. GET REALISTIC GOALS WITH REALISTIC PARTS..

You're more than likely going to get any other suggestions about the other parts, because you're starting off BAD from the beginning by using this turbocharger and think that other parts are going to help remedy your first BAD choice from the beginning... it won't work, sadly.

The ONLY way this turbo will work out for you is if:
-You build a head, preferably a vtec head, ported to the gills, full valve train etc.
-build the block ( the stock rods and pistons wont handle high rpm's)
-Rev the **** out of it to like 10,000+ rpm
You will be making 500+ whp, so plan to spend money accordingly to build to suite, many many thousands.
It's just not the right turbo man, get something smaller

Why is it out of the question to sell it? im sure someone here can use it, believe me, you will be much more happy. Ive been down this road before..... my car was actually slower than a stock b16a hatch...... do yourself a favor and sell it.... The LS motor is a great platform to boost, but I wouldnt put anything larger than a 60mm on it.
