A group of us are seriously considering hosting an autocross event in the Santa Barbara / Ventura / Oxnard area. We all have many auto-crosses and track days under our belt, but we are looking for something a little closer to home.

Initially we're thinking 1 event per month. This would be less or more depending on interest and turnout.

But first we are wondering what kind of interest is out there for an event like this.

I'm in santa barbara and I'd be interested. Ive never done it but I'd been looking into it and I really want to get into autocross. I would be interested in helping you get something started. for a start we could look to the porsche owners club for assistance since they run an autocross at earl warren and camarillo airport. earl warren would be a technical course since there are noise restrictions, and we could also set up rally stages going up gibraltar rd.

 

Never done autocross but love driving any time anywhere so I would give it a shot!!

 

Scoping out aerial views on Google maps the Ventura Co. Fairgrounds has a good size parking lot which our first pick.

Our plans were to contact the Fairgrounds to see about the possibility of renting part of or the entire parking lot. But we first wanted to see what interest is out there.

Obviously this event would be open to everyone with a well maintained car of any type.

 

Wouldnt they require you to have insurance to run an event out there?

 

that would be awesome although i already moved out of ventura county i still make regular visits especially if you guys get this going.

 

We would definitely have/need insurance.

 

I'm interested in doing some autocross. I'm trying to run at the upcoming Corvair club event but it would be cool if there was a honda or Jap. import club since I drive a CRX. If your putting something together, I'd be down to help. I'd talk to the guys that are putting on the Corvair autocross events and see they can help finding insurance and figuring out who to talk to get it going. CSCC hosts events at Cal Speedway and El Toro, I'm assuming that is too far? Personally myself (Jeff), I live in Moorpark and attend all of the CSCC events.

 

Yeah, I'm probably just going to head out there. I've been researching tracks and every one of them is at least 2 1/2 hours away (also the closest regulation vert ramp- another hobby of mine-skateboarding). I'm not specifically looking to compete, I plan on driving all of the tracks in SC but It would be cool to have something closer. I'm still paying off my car, so I won't be starting until August/September. Maybe I'll see you out there?
