Im having an issue my rear passenger door won't open from the inside or out. If If could get into the door panel I could fix it but I'm blocked out of it. Any ideas? Windows work and I can hear the door locking and unlocking inside.

 

Try pulling on the door whilst unlocking it from the inside with the manual unlock. Sometimes I find the lock mechanism gets kindof... "jammed". The door will be partially open and locked and it isn't possible to really unlock it unless you close it all the way. Give it a shot.

 

You MUST provide all pertinent information about your car and engine. Failure to do so may result in thread closure.

 

It is possible to remove the door panel with the door closed if you take your time. Removing the rear seat should help.

 

I didn't realize any extra info would help... It's a 97 Civic LX 4-door. I can see if I remove the seats I might have a chance in getting in there, and depending on how pliable the door panel is minimizing any damage. Maybe lifting it straight up...

Yea Joeshmo I gave what you said a shot. No luck. I moved the release on the inside then tried the other door and I could feel a difference in the handles, like the one that's stuck isn't attached to anything at all. Both inside and out feel like that. It doesn't open slightly at all it's completely shut and doesn't budge.
Like it's some sort of child lock gone wrong O.o

I recently bought an 97 ex sedan and the outside door handle did not work and the door had been shut with the child lock on. I was able to remove the inside door handle and pull the lever the handle was attached to which opened the door. I don't know why it worked but it did. If that doesn't work the above thread should do the trick. Good luck

 

I was able to take the inside handle bezel off and pull on the rod to open it. Seems like that child lock is somewhat stuck. Do I need to buy a replacement latch?
