Pretty straight forward question. Instead of getting a short ram intake with a cone filter, am I able to just take out my stock filter box, and pop a cone filter instead of the box?

Would it act the same as a short ram?

 

I've seen it done, I'm sure it will help due to the increased airflow, but a nice intake also helps keep that air cooler and less restriction.

I have an AEM short ram intake with a k&n filter and I wrapped my tube with with header wrap tape. Don't know really how much it helps but the idea is to keep that intake air cooler thus having more oxygen.
