Would you consider buying an ITR shell strictly for track use ONLY?
gonna have to find a better daily driver than the crx, but yeah i'm considering going this route.
idk. the thought about having a one trick pony for only track days is kinda a burden right now on the pockets. i'll be throwing money at it, but i won't be able to use it all the time. i guess thats why they call it a "track car"

Um, if it's your only ITR, I'd say no. Having owned a mixture of track only, street only and car that's seeing both here's my only advise:
If your only ITR is a track only ITR, the only time you will drive it is on track. Make sense? No nice day mountain drives, beach days or just because you feel like getting in it and driving for an hour or so.
Money shouldn't be the object here, if you get a caR for track only, drive it stock and learn to drive better before spending money on mods. If I could go back, I'd have spent that 15k on way WAY more track time, and maybe just a few mods.

depends. i would add up cost first. my only complaint about the itr engines is how the just eat rings with extended track use. add in the fact that they really aren't the easiest engine to rebuild since the hone grit and angle has to be perfect....whatever perfect even is if you want to see 250psi of cranking compression.
sit down with a pencil and paper sometime and add up realistic costs. it's not an expensive track car to maintain provided you stay NA and switch out engines every couple years, it's just what level are you happy with? if you're a power craving type of guy i would say the c5 corvette is better money spent. the larger engine, lower center of gravity, better brakes, stronger frame and rwd are an advantage in a car that costs similar money
then again i'm slightly demoralized at the moment having blown up yet another R motor a couple weeks ago, cracked ringlands.
seriously considering vtec stickers with a slash through them for under the hood, ww2 fighter plan inspired kill stickers. next engine is vtec number 4 and that's just since 2007
i will say that my jdm itr engine took more abuse and outlived the stock gsr engine, and the "built engine" from the machine shop combined.

I am in a similar situation as yourself and am glad to hear the perspective of other owners to help make a decision.
There are lots of people that have come and gone on these forums and every other car forum saying they were going to build a track car and those cars never left the garage. Track cars cost money, although ITR's compared to other cars are relatively cheap to maintain. You still have to factor in the cost of getting to the track, the track day itself, tires, pads, consumables, etc. And this is after the car is built.
Plan on spending at least $250 for a HPDE day even if nothing breaks. And that's assuming you can drive to the track without needing to get a hotel room. If that figure makes your wallet hurt, than you may want to think about a cheaper hobby. Like they always say, if you can't afford to crash the car then don't drive it on a racetrack.

Build the ITR shell up for a weekend cruising car > beach > canyons > wash > sleeping time until next week.
People who don't have an ITR just see people who bash an ITR us just wrong haha
The CRX with a gsr swap sounds more like a track car, just gut it, roll cage, than full suspension> redline.

Without a doubt I'd buy one for a serious dedicated track car. We are talking shells though. A bare shell or rolling chassis for the price is perfect. I'd hate to part out a complete ITR with the original parts to throw in a cage and have it stripped though.
