Did a search and didnt exactly find what i needed. My question is exactly how deep does a puddle have to be before the danger of sucking up water can occur. I have a AEM CAI. And front is lowered 1.75 inches. I ask because the entrance to my driveway is almost always flooded because of sprinklers. and add rain to that and it can get pretty deep, plus i have to enter at an angle to prevent scrapping so that puts the filter head on with the water. I was thinking maybe just get a bypass valve for now then later take it out and put one of those rubber sleeve connectors there. is there any hp loss with the bypass valve?

 

Get a short ram for rainy season, or a comptech. Better safe then sorry in my book.

 

just put the stock airbox back on for the "rainy season". if it really rains enough to be a hydrolocking issue, it should also be a hydroplaning issue and you wouldn't be racing...so why need a CAI. just put it back on when it dries up.

when i had the gsr, i took my aem cai off and saw streaks of water all through it.
one came on my itr when i picked it up....got home, and replaced it with stock airbox.

 

found it at http://www.optauto.com for $38, and when rainy season stops i can just take it off and put a hose over the 2 pipes right

 

nah im just going to order a generic short ram for the winter, it will be my "beater" intake

get one of those bypass valves from aem...or just put the stock box on ....i would say its safe to drive in the rain ...i dont think a little water will hurt....just dont get the whole filter underwater

 

I've heard bypass valves arent very safe long term wise. They work like a charm for what they are supposed to do, but after about a year the foam begins to degrade and can be sucked up into your engine, not good. And the water has to be up to the bottom of your body kit. Make sure you have that little plastic skirt thing on to deflect as much water as possible.

Weren't the bypass valves that got sucked into your engine the faulty ones that AEM recalled? Did they reissue a improved version? I already spent a lot to get my car converted from auto to manual..last thing I want happening is my car hydrolocking..

Never had a problem with my CAI here in Cali, I think you have to be in a really huge puddle to have it suck up some water...

 

Just today i took out my bypass valve and put in a rubber coupler. It is definately louder when I get on it, and just accelerating moderately. I haven't been able to hit vtec yet with it, but I am guessing it will be loud as hell. right now when I brought it up to 5k it sounded about same as 8k before

 

BTW, the guy asking to buy a Bypass valve. I'll sell you mine, which will fit integra's. Make me an offer.

I just cut mine on top and then attach the cone filter when I want a short stick. When I'm not doing that, I just re-attach the bottom pipe using a rubber hose "clamp".

on my cai intake setup on my 99 gsr, i have the the stock flaps holding up the filter, sorta like the filter just laying on it, there are a couple of holes in that flap is that still something to worry about?
