Default interior painting question?

I'm gona paint my '92 hatch si(Current Color is Red) and i was wondering if there is a clearcoating on the interior paint. Can someone confirm this? it certainly doesn't look and feel like there's a clearcoat and wouldn't make sense since it's on the inside. and if not, can i just paint over the stock color or do i still need the primer it. I don't really dig the red.

Info:

Exterior Color: 6U3 Desert Sage Metallic
Interior Color: Black

I have similar plans with my Del Sol and have researched it a bit.
I haven't heard anything about having to lay any clear coat, but that's probably personal preference - would you want a gloss to it? Basically, from what I've read, the area needs to be cleaned and degreased really well and it needs to be hit with some sandpaper. Laying primer before painting anything is almost always a good idea.
I know i don't have a lot a creditability on this site yet, but I hope this helps.

Unless you're switching to a color not offered from the factory here in the US, really think long and hard about if that's what you absolutely cannot live without. I would not touch a car with painted interior with a 10ft pole. Even if you get the SEM stuff and it turns out ok, if you scratch it, chances are you'll see the color underneath if you gouge it.

If you're even thinking of using regular spraypaint, just walk away, please.

I have done my interior black with the SEM products. I have tried prepping it a couple different ways using different degreasers, different primers, and different products through SEM. It holds just fine on the vinyl, but the plastic it will just scratch right off. I constantly have to do touch up sprays to cover up the scratches.

I have read the other thread and he used a different product, and was sprayed with a gun not a can. This probably allowed for a much thicker coat on the panels giving a bit more durability. His car was not driven very often from the sounds of it so I do not know how well it held up to the abuse.

Overall its not too hard, but don't be surprised if you get scratches in it. And the SEM Landau Black has plenty of shine to it, a little too much actually.
