Default Can't get starter back together!!!

Look at the diagram. Part number 11 has slid out of the starter body and I cant get it back together. The side with the short shaft has 2 washers on it, and sits between 4 small spring loaded magnets inside the body. Two of the magnets are sprung out, prohibiting the shaft from sliding into place. They move freely when I push on them but because of their spring-loaded action the shaft will not slide into its place. Any way to fix this or can I take it to a garage or something???

Why did you take your starter apart?

Its a long story....lets just say it was an accident.

Happened when I was trying to split the starter from the motor It was in real tight so I thought I was missing a bolt or something...Ended up with this mess. Is my (was) perfectly good starter salvageable or do I need a replacement?

Check and see if there is a small hole near where the magnets stick out. If so that hole is there so you can stick a paperclip or something in there to hold the magnet back while you put the other part in.

Put the part with the magnets on it in the armature BEFORE you put the whole assembly back in.

Could you go to a junkyard(take one apart there, maybe even grab parts you're missing) or borrow someone's to see how it all would go back together? Or would you rather just try to get it together without that hassle?

When my brother too my starter apart by mistake. I used a small scribe to hold th magnets back to get the shaft in place. It took about an hour of messing with but still works to this day.

OP Delivers, wow.

Starters are pretty cheap.

I do have a D15b7 starter I'd be willing to part with if you're looking for a known good
