Default Need tips on doing a compression test

96 Civic EX

I had a few questions about doing a compression test.

I guess you can screw it in the spark plug hole and then go crank the car, one person can do it right?

You unplug the coil wire right, I read somewhere you pull the ecu fuse, I guess pulling the coil wire is fine by itself?

When you hold the gas to the floor and crank it, how long? Esp if you are doing it by yourself and can't see the gauge.

Umm...mostly correct. You have a coil on your 96? Pulling the ECU fuse should be sufficient. One peson can do it. The hose should be long enough for you to place it on the intake or something and view from your seat as you crank. Remove all plugs so the engine will "bump" as the cylinder you are testing will be evident. You want to hear the engine turn over about 6 times.

This. If not I just had someone crank my car while I watched it. And make sure you hold the throttle down the whole time.

i would just unplug the distributor. easy enough without having to find a fuse.
