Default 97 civic - spark plug broke and I don't know how to get the rest out

Was changing my sparkplugs a few minutes ago when the sparkplug in cylinder 3 decided to break. I have no idea on how to get the rest of it out. Any suggestions?? Anything would be appreciated

you will need to use an easy out with an extention
and that breakage is caused by way to tight when fitted

Well basically you either have to go and buy a special kit from say snap-on or mac, or possibly even another specialty tool supplier. You thread a tool into the broken piece of the spark plug and then you will unthread the tool and it takes the broken piece of the spark plug out. Either you use that idea or you have to fully take the head off and try to get it out once the head is off. Either way you are up the creek.

So I went and got an easy out and first tried to use a drill to do it and failed.. then went to an impact gun and failed.. then went to a socket with a little breaker bar, ended up breaking the extension.. got out a craftsman extension and ended up breaking the easy out.. so now the easy out is stuck in there. Looks like im calling around some shops tomorrow to price the mess or taking the head off myself and just replacing it or something. frustrating. Oh and the sparkplug wasnt even in there tight I had put it back in about 30 mins prior to it breaking by just hand tightening it. Things happen I guess

I wonder if you cross threaded it? What brand plugs were they, and how old? I never had a plug break that I installed first.

Now if a shop worked on the car before me that is a different story.

I had a similar problem on a yamaha cylinder head. I removed the head, and filed through the remaining thread in 3 places...folded it up and removed it from the head. Unfortunately, I DID have to remove the head.

This exact same thing happened to me when I first got my car. Go to your local hardware store and get an easy out drill bit, put it in a ratchet extension, and it should just back it right out.
