So my hatch smokes randomly sometimes. Nothing crazy, just a little like cars smoke when they are cold started. But it randomly happens, sometimes cold, sometimes warmed up, sometimes while only idle, sometimes while driving kinda hard. Its the kind of smoke that ends a foot or two behind your car, not the deep blue kind that trails for like 40 feet.

It had a CEL for an o2 sensor but that was replaced a few weeks ago and light was turned off. Doesn't burn any oil or loose any coolant. Dry compression is 175 on all 4.

My guess is either rings or valve stem seals. Since my compression is good, I'm leaning towards the seals. I'm doing the timing belt this weekend so I can replace them then.


Any other ideas? The smoke is mostly white, sometimes a small hint of blue so I know it has to be oil. The engine is all stock except for a k&n filter and has no problems at all. I just don't like seeing the smoke.

So in short, whitish blueish smoke just sometimes, doesn't burn a noticeable amount of oil between changes, no coolant lose, 175 compression. What do you guys think?

Didn't smoke until it got dark yesterday so I couldn't do the video yet. Any ideas?
