Default Daily Driver - options for upgrading the engine of an automatic?

Hello,
I am looking to buy a civic and would like to do some work on it. It is going to be an automatic and I was wondering what my options were for upgrading. I know that vast majority would say go manual, but I am not interested in doing that. I was thinking of trying to put a B20z with and 2wd automatic trans with the ecu and tcm from the crv. I have seen some posts with similar questions, but I haven't found the answers I was looking for. I am unsure of whether it will fit or if there are other things I need to take into consideration. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Kind of hard to say until you tell us what kind of civic.

Auto b swap in EG, doable. Auto B swap in EK, PITA. AFAIK it has never been done.

Auto's really don't have much support around here.

The plan was to get a 96-00 civic sedan. I am not expecting a race car or anything just something will a little more kick. Thanks so much for the feedback so far. It is greatly appreciated.

I don't think you're getting a B-series automatic in this car.

Let me ask why you are looking for an auto?

Heavy city driving? / lots of traffic? / dont know how to drive 5spd?

Manual trans are a lot more reliable than auto. FYI

Not trying to make fun or anything....j/w...

This.

it's going to require quite a bit of modification to the car for this to work. Custom mount, cutting/modifying the frame rail. There is a reason why this isn't a popular swap.

There has been a few that claimed they did it. But guess what, NO PROOF! No one has ever been able to prove they did this swap.

You would think that if they had completed such a difficult swap, that so many people doubt is possible, that they would have some sort of proof.
Another dead give away that it is BS, is when they get called out they vanish.

The only way to really do this is to send out the tranny and have it built by Level 10. It's expensive but it's really the only way to do it. Then you can either boost it, or go the N/A bolt on route.

For the price to do all this you should find a faster automatic car other than a Civic.

What does Level 10 do that will make the B-auto trans physically fit in the car where it doesn't now? I mean, that's what I understand is one of the issues of this swap. I could probably be wrong. I'm not a swap guru.

No, they would have to build the D series tranny. I have also heard that it's much harder to put a teg auto trans into the civic, much easier just to do auto to manual in the civic. (he doesnt' want to do that)

The OP just needs to look at a diff car if he wants a faster auto.

They are one of the few who support the auto honda trans. But it's going to be stupid expensive.

Honda auto's are unique to Honda.

Honestly y not boost the car with the stock motor. If your looking for more power I'd go that route. For one it's probably going to cost the same as a swap and alot less pain in the ***.

How would you tune it?

The auto trans will not like the new found power and will fail quickly.

Not to mention, why the hell would ever turbo a stock auto d series?
It's pointless.

Does anybody know how much the d auto trans can take hp wise. Honestly I'd never go auto on my civic. But it seems his options r limited.

Actually you'd would be pushing it with 160hp. That's just a roundabout number that's always been thrown about.

Thanks a lot for the feedback everyone. If anyone has any ideas of other options that would be awesome. I had thought about the base model RSX, it had an automatic with 160hp and I am not sure the torque. Do anyone know if that is possible in this generation of civic or the next? Thanks again.

So it looks like b-series is not going to work by the sounds of things. I am planning on buying a high(er) mileage civic and swapping the engine for a low mileage one. What are my best options for swapping and can I do any upgrading to make any of them have any noticable improvement. Again it is just a daily driver and I am not expecting any miracles, just something a little better than a stock civic and something more unique. Thanks again, the posts have been really useful.

I am also curious. If you insist on sticking with an auto, you basically won't make any power to speak of. Maybe you could throw a 35shot on there, but other than that you're pretty much limited to bolt-ons, which will only make your car louder and move peak power closer to redline, not add significant power.
