Cant find good info on AWD
Hey yall, Im trying to find out some info on CRX AWD conversion from a 88 wagon
All the threads I find basically are about whether it can be done or not and thats useless to me
I havent been able to find any info on what is really involved, I know its not a bolt in swap and Im not scared of fabrication at all
I need to know if Im better off buying a whole car to cut and swap whatever I need or can I save some money and just cut certain things out for my swap
I know that the driveshaft tunnel is different, but what about the rear area where the differential sets, does any of that bolt in or do I need to graft in the whole trunk pan and "frame" rails ?
Please only reply if you have a link to a good thread with the info I need or if you actually know about this swap
Thanks, Matt

You don't search very well I see... on the first page even.

The search is good but want something straightforward then a Civic Wagovan or CRV great for your D-series goody's and B-series goody's. Better off with Civic Wagovan part's it worth the wild in my best opinion.
I had found and read the thread in your link before you posted it and I have read Draggbodys build also
Draggbodys thread is pretty good, but there are 2 things about it, 1 he has a EK and I have a EF, 2 he is using CRV stuff and I will be using wagon stuff
I like his rear mounting set up and that gives me some thoughts, but nowhere in his thread or your post did my question get answered...
All I want to know is if I am better off buying the whole car or not, is there parts on it that would make my task a lot easier or am I better off to just fab everything
Thanks, Matt

Im not trying to start any **** contests here guys, I have searched, maybe Im a search retard IDK
I went to Turbo_teg's list of threads started by him and went through all 10 pages, didnt see anything about a AWD swap or anything, do you know the name of the thread ?
Im not asking to be spoon fed here guys, and Im not having an attitude with yall even tho yall are with me, all I want is a lil decent info, Im not some 17 year old rice punk and I dont see the point in guarding this info so much, its like Honda people dont want people to do custom things to Hondas or something

No, in my opinion, the problem typically stems from people not wanting to be copied. In a world where everything has been done (that is feasable cost wise, and some that aren't) already, it's hard to be "original". Just like I used to think I was the only one with a ~450whp RT-4WD then all of these builds pop up left and right.
I understand what you are asking. Since I am a RD1 guy myself, I already cheated all of the conversion process. So it's only speculation on my part but: if it were me I would prefer to purchase the entire vehicle and convert as necessary. You never know when that little bracket or piece might make the swap ten fold easier or help an idea along for something completely different. Not only this but you can get vital things like measurements to help when you are installing everything. Although, an entire parts car isn't always available so you must make do with what you have.
If you want to know a bit more about each system search "fast2camciv"s CR-V build. In there is plenty of pictures, diagrams, and useful tid-bits of information. Personally I would run a hybrid system (or go CR-V with LSD) for the AWD. Something like "Epic Tuning"s Civic:

I understand a lot of this shows everything BUT what you are asking for, but this is because I don't have any links saved on my phone for that. No matter what you choose there will be a ton of fab work required. If I recall correctly the RT-4WD Wagons have wider "frame rails" up front and a different subframe in the rear. It's been a while since I owned one other wise I would measure the exact difference for you.
Here is an OK read for the basics:

PS - Thanks for staying calm - even if we are being unreasonable, it helps the situation progress.

Spray,
Part of the problem you are running into is that doing an AWD conversion from a CR-V is such a massive fabrication type build, its not something there is going to be a "typical" write-up on.
Plus, the degree of difficulty on doing this kind of swap kinda dictates that if you have the ability to do it, you should not need a forum thread to help you. Thats not meant to be an ***....its just the truth. If you actually have the fab skills needed for the project, than you should not need us for much of anything.
