Default 2000 EX P1768-Tried Helm FlowCharts-Now What?

Hey guys, I have been browsing HT and am happy to be new to the site after trying to reasearch this issue. I know that it is seems pretty common, I have a 2000 EX automatic with a steady single p1768 code. MY D4 idicator is flashing. I have gone thru my Helm manual and pin pointed the connectors and ground at the ECM.(they all are within spec-ohms/volts from harness pigtails to fuse panels) I installed a new Linear Solenoid and no change occured. The gears still bang from park/neutral to fwd or reverse. I have browsed and search these threads looking for a more indepth fix. I hear it is wiring causing the issue.... I also hear that the trans in shot internally and should be replaced? Can Someone please help a guy out. My civic is my single mode or transportation. It feels like there is no overdrive and the vtec is not working...please help and advise. Thank You all. -J.W.

If you have checked all of the wiring and everything is in spec, it is probably a bad PCM.

Thats where I am confused. The Honda Service Bullitin I have for the Linear solenoid says to have the trans flushed and a new solenoid installed. Then beyond that it says replace trans unit due to a possible broken spring internal to the trans itself.. So what next? How does one test the PCM?

Another thing, I have unplugged the ecm and spare and radio back up fuses as well as unhook the battery to try and clear the ecu/pcm and still the light comes on as soon as i touch the igntion on.. a single 1768 code linear solenoid

You swap it out for a known good unit.

My money is on the transmission itself though.

I heard the Transmissions were all plagued with this issue. However I never here about what exactly the electrical fix was or is . just that it was a electrical issue and then it was corrected. Are these trannnys that bad and that common to replace ?

Honda had a TSB about replacing the linear solenoid, but I've never heard of it actually fixing the issue for anyone. These transmissions aren't that bad, especially if you compare them to Honda's earlier J-series V6 transmissions. But they are getting older and do fail from time to time.

question is do I buy a trans or start with an ecm? I dont know of any one close to ne or co workers with a ecm i could swap for a few minutes, I would be willing to pay for one at a decent price as i am in need of my vehicle running again...
