Purging or flushing oil cooler and AN lines, any tips on how?

At every oil change, a significant amount of oil stays in the oil cooler and -10 AN lines I have running to it. I was wondering if anyone had tips on a simple setup to flush or purge the oil cooler. I have a thermostat on the block in the Mocal adapter that feeds the cooling lines, and that is rather hard to access. So I am looking for something as simple and as easy as possible to flush the cooler. So far I just haven't bothered because I don't want the big mess you get when opening the lines. Plus it is hard to re-fill the cooler and lines with the thermostat closed.
I was looking at inserting these XRP -10 male to female AN fittings with a 1/8" NPT port and using a valve of some kind to force oil into the cooler. Not sure how ell the oil is going to want to flow out of such a small NPT port. Anyone have any working solutions or even ideas?

how about 2 quick connects for the lines and then just take it out and drain it.

if you have it mounted so the lines come off the bottom of the cooler or the side of the cooler, put quick disconnects ont he line. then just make a set up for the bottom fitting with a hose so u can connect it and drain the oil into a pan.

My cooler has the AN lines coming off the side. Quick connects are an option, but what kind? I would also like to be able to refill the cooler after it's been emptied while engine is cold. Otherwise you have to drive the car with an empty oil cooler and lines, wait for the thermostat to open, cooler fills, and you have to bring car in and top it up.
jiffy-tite makes qd fittings, but at a pretty penny.
They even have nifty valved fittings so when you qd it, oil won't spill out. Pretty cool, but probably wouldn't help if you're trying to empty the lines

i wasn't sure how hard it was to get to your cooler. those QDs will work. you can refill it also. just make up a drain and fill set up from another QD. unless your fittings are on top. then its gonna be a pain to get the oil out reguardless of what you do. maybe suck it out with a vacum pump like a brake bleeder? http://amzn.com/B000JFN9WC
Depending on how big your endtanks are you might be able to find/make an aluminum drain bung and plug to weld onto the bottom of one end tank. There are a few coolers on the market that have a drain like this built in. Or adding an easily releasable fitting or drain fitting like posted above to the lowest point in the system. Should drain most of pretty easily. This would also be a good place for a remote oil filter or inline mesh filter on the return line. These would serve both purposes as it'll drain whenever you change the filter anyway.
Just don't do something like this....

I have the same situation. When I switched from dino to synth oil I took apart one of the couples and blow out the lines to and from the cooler. Same with the lines from and including the tank.
But I am wondering how important it is to get the oil out of the cooler now. I change my oil every race or track event (not every autox). So is it necessary to get the oil out of the cooler and pressure tank?

I have had the same issues, I use compressed air in the head and it gets a decent amount out of the system but not every bit.
Obviously the worry is too much moisture from the compressor but that isn't a problem with a decent water/air seperator.
My way is the poor man way but it seems to work more than doing nothing.

Just checked pricing. Quick disconnects in -10 size are going to cost about $300 or more to do two lines, plus need extra fittings for connecting in the feed and drain, so not a good option in my book. That option is dead in the water. Should cost less than my Mocal cooler, not more.
ok, how bout my vac pump idea?
and as far as filling it, is it a race car or a street driven track car? if its just a racecar, dtich the thermostat. if not, fill it from which ever line u take off to suck the oil out of it.

just leave the oil in there and forget about it. its not going to hurt anything to leave it in there unless you change your oil every 10,000 miles.
