Im experiencing vibration when i accelerate over 60 mph.
Iv had the car inspected for mechanical problems, with no sign.
I had the alignment done and new struts put in the front only.
My tire wear is on the front left tire. Prior to the aligment and struts put in the vibration was worse even at lower speeds. I dont know what else to check for. There are rims that arent original manufacturer on the car. Maybe they are causing it. I dont have the print out of the alignment specs they gave me but i remember them saying that one of the sides was a little off and that was the best they could get it aligned. What would be my best approach to getting this resolved?

 

Inner tire wear is generally indicative of out of spec toe. Always ask for a before/after alignment spec sheet and go to a place that does it via computer. A mom/pop place probably is not going to give you as good of an alignment as elsewhere unless they specialize in it.

If it's while accelerating, poor wheel balancing or bad tires can cause that.

 

At our shop we ALWAYS check out the front end before doing an alignment. Inner tire wear is usually due to negative camber. I suspect something is worn, loose, or bent since they said that is the "best they can get it". If you have bad tie rods (usually don't go bad on our Hondas), wheel bearings, or ball joints the vehicle will immediately go back out of alignment as soon as it is backed off of the ramp.

Have you hit any large potholes? I did recently and bent my knuckle and wheel. Caused vibration and sever inner tire wear.

 

Incorrect information and a common misconception. You can slam the **** out of the vehicle and provided the toe is zeroed out you will have negligible inner tire wear.

The more aggressive (or poorly) aligned the toe is the faster the inner portion will wear. S2000's stock have a more aggressive toe setting in the rear (especially UK specs) that are one of the reasons the rear tires wear out twice as fast - even at stock camber.

 

Hence the word, usually.

I bent my knuckle/spindle on the right front. Within a short time the inner tire was smooth. Toe was okay and there was no cupping or chopping.

 

what if you have had new tires placed (kuhmo) had an aligned, balanced. ANd got steering wheel vibration at 55mph and above so hard that you can see the wheel shake and also very rough ride. Have taken it back to Honda twice and they say brakes an rotors are fine, aligment is fine and balance is good. I have a 2008 Honda Accord manual trans with about 60,000 miles to it.

 

You're in the wrong section, but you can just have bad tires that are out of whack.

 

is the wear smooth and on the inside of the tire? or is it wear feathered or sawtoothed going towards the inside of the tire.

if it's smooth wear, it's camber. if it's feathered or sawtoothed, then it's positive toe (toe in)


sounds like you need those wheels balanced. if they have been, you probably have excessive runout in one (or more) of your wheels. with my wheels i had .0037" runout in one of my wheels, but when i placed the light spot of the tire in the same place as the valve stem, i got it down to .0022" and the alignment machine didn't even throw the code for runout.

 

I have a 2007 Acura MDX and also have excessive wear on the inner front left tire. I'm on my 3rd set of tires, each set lasts just under 1 year. I have 19" rims and have tried 3 different brands. I've had the wheels aligned and balanced with each new set. I'm not sure if it's the rims or something else with the car. I'm been researching this and have found that there are a few people with the same issue. Debating going to 18" rims or trading the car. New tires every year is getting extremely expensive. Has anyone found a solution yet?

 

Do you have actual print outs before/after of the alignment? If it's just one tire that would suggest either a bent suspension component or bad alignment on the one.
