Was there a difference between the body to door connectors from 92-95? I have a coupe door connector from a 94 coupe and a sedan connector from a 94 and while the basic shape and alignment notches are the same, there seems to be considerably less slots for wires in the coupe (I know there are less wires because you're not worrying about extra windows or locks) In fact the coupe seems to have 2 round slots where the sedan has no round slots what so-ever. Its not something I ever noticed before, but it makes my testing difficult as I dont have a mating end for a coupe to do testing with. Granted there are some extra free slots in the coupe I can work with, however whatever goop they stick in the connector to prevent corrosion is slowing me down some. So if someone could shed a little light that there was actually a difference, then perhaps I can sort out whats going on and if need be, swap the coupe connector to a sedan connector and get the extra wires I want into the door.

 

If we are talking a 5G USDM EX Coupe vs. a 5G USDM/CDM Sedan with power windows/locks/mirrors, then there is NO difference between connectors.

There IS a difference between CDM Si Coupe and the above cars because there were no power windows/locks on this vehicle. This means that the door connector is identical to the one seen in 5G Si Hatchbacks, which only received power mirrors.

 

The ones with no circles came off of a 94 sedan. THe ones with the circular came off a coupe (94, or 95)

 

Also, does anyone have a good idea on how to remove the goop?

 

I suspect the one with "circles" was used to feed some 'custom' wiring through the door. Ie., jam it through an unused location in the connector. Not OEM.

The white 'goop' is important for preventing corrosion in the harsh env't that is the door jamb (exposed to weather and road grime, etc.). I would leave it as is unless you plan on putting some back when you're done (white lithium grease, I think). I might start with soap and water and use an old toothbrush, and then when most of it's gone move up to a wax and grease remover fast drying solvent.

 

Yeah, thats what I figured what the goop was for. I guess I can confirm the originality of the circles if I check the actual ones on my car (This is all junkyard pulls so I could experiment a little bit with modifying the lock module) Tryining to figure out if I can add the extra wire to the door lock actuator that most of the other models have as well as seeing what other inputs I need to add to the door to make this project work.

 

Come to think of it, the car I had gotten the one with circles from seemed quite a bit bastardized with a bunch of extra wiring and the what not. I merely collected the entire mess and purchased it all for about 20 bucks and proceeded to seperate out what I wanted.
