Default My tranny story, and a BIG thanks toooo......

First I want to THANK Steve (SGT)

Here is my story..

I purchased, what I was told to be a 2001 ITR tranny in perfect condition (with a JDM final drive already installed about 4k miles ago) from a fellow Honda-Tech member. We agreed on a price shipped 3 day express. There were a few issues getting the tranny shipped as planned, but he made up for it by sending it 2 day. I wasn’t able to get the tranny installed until yesterday evening around 5pm. About that time I get a phone call saying " hey your tranny is finished, but there is a problem." " It will not shift from 4th to 3rd if the car is rolling. I thought to myself, he must be kidding. I have a track day planned, in which I have been working on this car religiously for the past week to be ready for. I pick the car up about 630, and sure enough, it will NOT go into 3rd from 4th. No matter how hard I tried. So, I start to figure out how I can go from 4th to 2nd then to 3rd all in one motion so I can still track the car this weekend. Well, that is a bigger pain than I thought, so what to do now. I call a few friends and before I know it we are pulling the tranny some 3 hours after it was installed. Its now 1030 and the tranny is off, I am on my way to meet Steve, to crack it open to inspect the syncros. Fast forward after the 45 min drive and 10 min's or so it took to crack the housing. Wow, low and behold the 3rd gear syncro is TRASHED! Lucky enough, Steve has a syncro I can use. ( Thank you again, Steve. Can you see a pattern here?) After 2 trips to his house for parts, he is back at work and about 4:30am I have a tranny with a fixed 3rd gear and a JDM FD that will be going on my car tonight after 6pm.

Cliff notes: I bought a "perfect" ITR tranny with a JDM F/D already installed. I received an ITR tranny with a trashed 3rd gear syncro and STOCK F/D.

I’m not going to name, names as we are currently discussing ways to make this right. I truly want to believe this was a big mix-up.

SGT I cannot begin to thank you enough.

Opinions welcome.

edit: I also wanted to thank Ben, Robert, and Danny!

thanks ! ! !

I know about internal/external transmission problems after I purchased a brand new GSR transmission from a respected member on here. After paying twice the cost for install due to a cracked housing and internal problems that could not be discovered until it was installed, the final piece was a compilation of parts from my old transmission and the new one. Not exactly what I had in mind, and to be perfectly honost, never could figure out who/what the culprit was. A step was taken to try and compensate me by the seller, but never followed through. Being the forgiving person that I am though, I give all the benefit of the doubt. I definitely don't use that shop anymore though.

if that thing shifted fine i must of been on some serious drugs lastnight. 3rd gear was gone, you couldnt even shift out of 4th to 3rd.. and also when dude put in the final drive the one that came out of the car looked stock.. maybe you sent the wrong tranny... ??? anyways, we are happy now but tired.. no sleep lastnight

I'm with Drumsy... benefit of the doubt. Especially now considering a) Bryan didn't make C5's name public, he did on his own accord, and b) explained in full and is STILL offering some sort of compensation/deal with Bryan.

Hope the situation works out for you both, and to both being men about it. I, too, am glad no one mother is involved.

Default JDM final drive?

Im guessing that the JDM gear is taller? These damn cars rev too fuggin high...i cant cruise above 110 w/out going into vtec. now that just takes away all the fun.

Is there a six speed made for us maybe, longshot, but thought id try.

whats the jdm fd go for?

I'm sorry but it's impossible for a third gear synchro to be damaged in shipping.

I understand you're working to resolve the issue, yet this point must be made clear.

Big props to SGT and the guys that helped Bryan drop the tranny. Also Bryan an C5 seem like stand up guys..
I would not trust the Honda dealer who did your install C5. I will almost guarantee that rat-**** bastard who did your tranny and f/d work kept the JDM f/d for himself and left the stock f/d in it. C5, do you know the name of the tech that did the tranny work on your car? I would do my best to find out who, and definitely CONFRONT this rat-**** about the situation.
I'm glad that Bryan and C5 work this out.
to C5 for not hiding, and for SGT Bryan and his friends..
