Default Replacement Tranny for 2002 TL-S

Hi Guys,

New to the forums here, but I'm looking for some advice regarding a replacement tranny for my 2002 TL-S.

The car currently has 158K on it and I'm not planning on getting rid of it. I'm hoping in 3 years it will become my son's car so I want to get it fixed right this time.

The original tranny went in Dec-2003 and was replaced with 27K on it. So the replacement (external oil jet kit) went 130K before it died. I've been looking at all types of options on this tranny, but knowing it doesn't have the newer 2005 design I'm hesitant to waste any money having it remanufactured, if they would even do it in this case.

I know a lot of people are putting in different trannys into these cars, but each time I approach this idea with local, highly regarded shops they look at me like I'm wacked out on drugs. I tell them they are doing this all of the time on the forums, but then I get don't believe everything you read comment.

Right now I have a option to have it rebuilt with a 3yr/36K warranty ($2600), replaced with a remanufactured unit with a 3yr/100K warranty ($3100), or remanufactured with a 3yr/75K warranty with the option of getting a 5yr/ unlimited mileage warranty for ($3500ish). I like the last one the best, but since it is not the upgraded case I honestly have no clue how much that one is really going to cost me.

Knowing the issues what would you guy recommend or is there another completely different tranny I should be getting? I'm not comfortable gettng anything out of a bone yard and none of the mechanics will touch one anyway. So my hands are a little bit tied, but I figure if I'm going to fork out $3K for a fix they are going to do it my way.

Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Scott

Look at this forum. It's filled with TL's and transmission problems. The car was an embarrasment to Honda/Acura. Get rid of the car and get something else. No matter what you do, even if honda gave you a brand new one, it will still fail.
