Need new brakes... Any recommdations?
Hey all, I just bought a 2005 RSX Premium and would like some help choosing a nice daily brake setup. Nothing hardcore at all. Just maybe a step up from oem.
Needs:
- Low dust
- As smooth and quiet as possible
- Longevity
I was thinking Hawk ceramics for pads and EBC dimpled/slotted or Powerslots for rotors. However, Ive been hearing good things about Centric Rotors.
Everyone is welcomed to post what you used and how you like it.
Thanks.

Project Mu 'B-Force' pads and OEM or Brembo blank rotors.
low dust, little to no noise, bettery stopping power than OEM pads.
i use these pads as a daily driver. they also make your rotors very shiny.

Hawk Ceramic pads are awesome, but I just can't imagine why anyone would want to reduce the pad contact area with slotted/dimpled rotors.
And don't listen to the advice of anyone claiming "better stopping than OEM". The OEM setup is perfectly adequate to trip the ABS, even on "extreme performance" summer tires, and since you can't brake with more force than the tires can support, better stopping isn't possible.

Im not after high performance braking at all. Just something that would be smooth, quiet, wont dust alot... And NO RUST! Lol. I would spring for the centric premiums to get the coated finish.
I wanted at least a slotted design so the pads would wear evenly and not begin to "eat" the rotor... therefore prolonging the life of the rotor... Or am I way off here? lol

Slotted vs drilled vs blank is a can of worms and you'll find a lot of strong opinions without much useful data. A few studies I've read suggest that slotted and drilled offer better stopping power under certain conditions, but there is an increse in pad wear and risk of rotor failure.
IDK about RSXs but I've NEVER been satisfied with the braking of my GS-R. I've tried different pads on Brembo blanks and gone from so-so to slightly-improved.

Hawk pads, brembo blanks.
IMO there is no reason to get dimpled/slotted rotors for a car that will see noithing but DD duty.
I just don't get the point of it.
I've driven a RSX, the stock brakes were more then capable of stopping it.

Vatozone Duralast blanks, Hawk Ceramic pads for daily and autocross use, HP+ fronts for HPDEs, never had an issue with the brakes in my GSR. I didn't even have heat issues running the big track at Willow Springs on a 105* August day. What are you expecting from them that they don't provide? The only change I really wanted was stainless lines to reduce the ABS kickback.
I have project Mu B force pads and centric premiums on my car, in addition to braided ss brake lines. Best bang for your buck IMO. Don't waste money with drilled/slotted/dimpled -- you'll just be paying more for something that won't be noticeable on a DD.
hawk hps and blank rotors from autozone or o'reillys work great. i did a year and a half of continuous 120-60 stops. they lasted a loooong time. no noise, low dust and worked very well
A wiser reply than mine.

^ Are you referring to Wagner thermoquiets? Ive heard great things about those as well. Akebono also seems to be a huge hit with BMW guys. I guess it just comes down to personal preference. What I found with the Hawk HPS is that they seem to work great for daily driving... low dust/noise. But they also can handle light track duty or a little aggressive driving... This is when they would dust more. Seems like a better all round pad. I gave Akebonos strong consideration as well but I havent tried either of these so my decision is just based on the reviews I read.
I've tried Hawk and Akebono and chosen pads with steadily increased performance. I'm on HPS now and no trouble with dust or noise. As far as I can tell there is no tradeoff, although in a blind test I would have trouble distinguishing them as well.
Personally I would recommend a blank rotor (EBC comes to mind having very affordable blank rotors) with some Wagner Thermoquiets. I have the Thermoquiets on my IS300 and they stop great, have no noise, and are great for a dd.
