T3/T4 vs 14B, and all other "small" turbos.
My friend and I get into quite a few discussions about this. He owns a 14B. I own the T3/T4 so naturally we both side with what we own.. I'd like other opinions.
He claims that on a street race a smaller turbo will always win. Based on quicker spool, but how much quicker can it actually be.. So he builds full or close to full spool in 1st gear.. on an LS a T3/T4 will be near that by 2nd gear, no?? and have more mid-range/high end power?? I don't see the point of 10psi in 1st gear neway (kiss goodbye to traction?)
I have the option of going to a smaller turbo right now, overall.. non bias, what is better for the street.. I am not a track buff, but at the same time I know all the good races down here are usually from rolls and top speeds of 110 mph.. and I'd wanna beat the big dawgs, I just picture a smaller turbo dying out midrange..

That's a good argument. Depending on the length of the street race, for instance less than 1/4 mile, the smaller turbo "might" have the advantage. But like you brought up, traction is an issue with quick spooling turbos. Even so, the "bigger" turbo will still have enough to keep up in the start, and it'll definitely pull up top.
I say stick with the t3/t4. Or else go with a ball bearing turbo...not all big turbos lag.

I hate this argument. its crap.
two cars being equal, the car with more power will win. all that matters is how much torque u r making between shift points. anything under that is useless in a drag race except on the luanch where u spend less then a 1/2 seconed under 5k rpms. Race ur friend at the same boost level, see who is luaghing now. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA screw a 14b!
