99 civic lx d16y7 lack of power going up hill
99 civic lx d16y7 stock everything with 198,xxx miles fresh oil and ngk plugs has a hard time going up hills. I have to go to 2nd or some times 1st gear just to get up the hill.
What is the condition of your transmission? Any harsh shifts? Jerking while going pass 60? Any type of complaints regarding the transmission?
Probably because the Y7 engine comes with a tranny set up with longer gears, otherwise it's pretty normal for stock d16's to get up hills :T

Nah, Y8 manifold be better and easier to find

But power on the high end wouldn't help him if he's having to keep it in lower gear to get UP the hills.
Your best bet is to lose some weight off the car if you want to get up hills quicker
Floor mats, big speaker systems, etc, toss'em out to move quicker!
Less mass = easier to move
ALWAYS
...on the other hand, you may be getting weak spark and therefore less power
Check your spark too

Your problem is the d series engine. They have no torque. I remember big hills that were almost impossible to drive up unless I was in 2nd gear. But with a H22 engine in my Civic. I no longer have that issue.
Also top end aint getting you up a hill. The best mod you can do for a Y7 is to swap to an EX manual transmission.
i tested it, before i did the swap there is a hill leaving my place with a speedlimit sign about 300 feet up the hill. Before i could barely pull 95 km/h at the sign, half hour later after i did the z6 intake manifold swap, i can pull 105-110km/h. I wanted to see for myself if it would make much of a difference besides looking 100x better and it did.

I don't know how yall deal with it, a y7 with long geared transmission has to be terrible. My z6 with y8 trans feels **** slow! I really do believe it's running perfectly fine, no cel, i just get so used to my other car so driving the ek feels unbearable.

ran the little coolant line off the tube between the waterpump and the thermostat housing to the one side of the iacv, then the other side of it back to the intake manifold (where it bolts to the block), used the y7 throttle body but i used the piece that the throttle cable attaches to off the z6 throttle body (has to be done or the cable wont clip on properly) the little vacum sensor that plugs into the charcoal canister, i unbolted it from the y7 intake manifold and mounted it to the firewall and ran the vacum lines from the manifold to it, then to the charcoal canister. Used the z6 fuel rail, y7 injectors, y7 throttle body, and obviously the z6 intake manifold. cheapest, best upgrade ive done to the car so far. And no cels, cuz everything plugged in fine, and still works like it should
i had a '96 dx model with the d16 automatic and that car had some pep, went up hills just fine... i now have a '99 ex and it wont hardly get out of its own way up hills...
94 dx 5 speed that is just slow. Reminds me of a stock vw bug. It's fine on the highways. These engines are small and lack low end torque. A tune up might help if it's been awhile.
ok so I guess its pretty normal for d-series to have a hard time getting up hills right? first d-series I ever owned had a integra gsr before and it had no promblem going up hills
